SAIT's Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) focuses on non-credit programs supporting corporate training, the individual learner and international projects. We create courses and programs for life-long learning with careers at our core. Our courses range from exploring general interests to up-skilling for career advancement and reskilling for career changes. We complete all background activities required to set up our products for students to purchase and experience several delivery options.
Course opportunity:
SAIT has partnered with the Solicitor General and Alberta Advanced Education to deliver a Building Services Worker - Industrial Cleaning course at Calgary Correctional Centre (CCC). This opportunity is to deliver in-person training to the Inmates at CCC.
Anticipated Facilitation dates are between March - June, 2025 with additional deliveries in Fall 2025
1 intake at 30/hrs per intake
Programing will run Monday to Friday evenings (with the exception of Statutory holidays), max 6 hours per day.
Police clearance will be required
The Role
Prepare and present lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners if applicable given the course outline
Train students on routine cleaning and disinfection of spaces within any facility
Facilitate lectures, skill demonstrations and use of proper cleaning products based on course outline and industry guidelines.
Maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment
Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students
Attend all SAIT training as required
Achievement of SAIT initiatives and Objectives
Be an active and engaged member of the School
Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines and safety standards as required
Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors
All other duties as required for the position
Qualifications
Previous post-secondary education in a related field
Current Industry experience, first hand knowledge of what employers and industry seek, want and need in terms of custodial services.
Advanced knowledge in the area of Safe working procedures, Sanitation, WHMIS and general cleaning
Formal training or education in facilitation or teaching is considered an asset
Previous building attendant or custodial supervisor experience is an asset.
Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
Fluent in English reading and vocabulary
Comfortable speaking to the public
Positive & respectful attitude
Ability to read, interpret and deliver specific curriculum
Excellent communication skills
Ability to organize and present written information
Desired:
Previous experience working with client at Calgary Corrections
Experience with a Learning Management System (Brightspace or Moodle is an asset)
Training and knowledge of adult learning fundamentals
