The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is seeking temporary, part-time Banquet Captains to assist with delivering memorable events and experiences in our unique venues. The Banquet Captains will be responsible for set up, delivery and tear down for both internal and external events including weddings, corporate events, high tea, and more. This is an incredible opportunity to help shape the memories for thousands of guests!

Contract:

  • Start Date: End of April 2025
  • End Date: September 2025

What you will do:

  • Manage the expectation of the event convener from their arrive through to the completion of the catered event
  • Handle the food and beverage stock for the delivery of catered functions in accordance with the outlined policies and procedures of the organization
  • Set up furniture, equipment and decor for catered functions as per the detail provided on the event contract
  • Deliver food and beverage according to the standards and policies outlined within the organization
  • Coordinate or direct hourly catering staff for the purpose of delivering catered events following the outlines of Customer Service and Profitability designated by the organization
  • Complete Catering logs in detail related to the catered event and the delivery of that event
  • Provide accurate information regarding consumables at a catered function for the purpose of invoicing, to include bar inventory and reconciliation as well as accurate guest counts for catered functions
  • Assist in ensuring all policies and procedures are followed by catering staff through observing and reporting policy violations immediately to either the Banquet Coordinator and or the Food and Beverage operations manager

What you will bring:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in food & beverage service
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity,
  • Valid ProServe is required
  • Friendly and outgoing towards colleagues and guests
  • Ability to complete work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal skills

Working Conditions:

  • Able to work in fast paced environment
  • Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs, walking and standing for long periods of time required
  • Shift work required including late evenings, weekends, holidays

The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff working at the zoo must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions. The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo follows the advice of Environment Canada when responding to temperature and air quality issues.
