THE POSITION

The Director of Live Entertainment and Programming will oversee and manage the booking of events at Scotiabank Saddledome and the future Scotia Place, ensuring a diverse and profitable range of sports, entertainment, and live events. This role requires a strategic leader with extensive experience in event coordination, negotiation, and a deep understanding of the sports and entertainment industries.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead all booking activities for the Scotiabank Saddledome and future Scotia Place, including but not limited to concerts, sports events, family shows, and corporate events.
  • Oversees and manages the online booking, collaboration, and venue management software for all live events, including preventing double booking, managing holds, and sharing information securely.
  • Prepare written proposals and estimates; reevaluate the potential business value of various events and clients; initiate contractual arrangements; finalize all booking arrangements; prepare contracts; negotiate rental and other rates as required.
  • Focus on revenue growth and achieving or exceeding revenue goals related to event bookings by identifying high-demand events and asset positioning within the local, regional, and national marketplace and economic impact.
  • Establish, enhance and cultivate an expansive network of event producers, promoters, artist agents/managers and other clients to drive event bookings and foster long-term partnerships.
  • Maintain continuous knowledge and employ competitive analysis of current industry trends and opportunities in the live entertainment industry, including concerts, festivals, and sporting events.
  • Develop the strategic vision for Scotia Place, including new sales and marketing tools, materials, proposals, estimates, rate cards, and budgets.
  • Work with marketing and sales teams to maximize revenues for all concerts and events, including premium and off-manifest inventory.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with all CSEC Building Operations departments to ensure smooth operations for CSEC clients, fans, and employees.
  • Participate in developing and administrating the annual budget, event forecasting, reports and statistics.
  • All other duties as assigned.

THE INDIVIDUAL

The ideal candidate will have the following background:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in event booking, venue management, or related roles in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent training and experience.
  • Experience in contract negotiation, development, and execution, including closing deals that meet financial and strategic goals.
  • Proven experience in budget management and revenue growth strategies.
  • Strong track record of building relationships and generating new business.
  • The ability to research, develop, and maintain relationships with artist agents and artist management as well as local, regional, and national promoters.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an expert ability to present, communicate, and negotiate new ideas and concepts.
  • Strong computer skills in MS office, industry booking software. Experience with Venue Ops is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
