What will be your daily pursuit?

Reporting to the Director, Media & Communications, this role is responsible for the development and execution of external communications strategies to build positive brand awareness of Pursuit as a global attractions and hospitality brand.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced communicator with strong writing skills, an inquisitive mind, and an innate interest in uncovering and telling great stories and bringing them to life. The Senior Manager, Media & Public Relations should be comfortable balancing strategic thinking with proactive, tactical execution and should possess a strong track record in developing and maintaining relationships with key media in the travel, lifestyle and business press.

The Senior Manager, Media & Public Relations will work closely with the Pursuit marketing team, operation managers, key stakeholders and partners, along with external subject matter experts to ensure that Pursuit’s Media & Public Relations function is supporting our shared vision/mission, growth strategies and revenue targets.

This role will be a hybrid working environment, with Pursuit’s office based in Calgary.

What will you do in this job?

  • Major Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement strategic campaigns across Pursuit’s global portfolio of iconic travel and hospitality experiences.
    • Develop new and strengthen current relationships across multiple media verticals and within identified global media markets.
    • Stay plugged into relevant trends across the media landscape including the integration of blogger and creator strategies as part of a robust media mix.
    • Execute and host in-market media events, press trips, PR activations and desksides.
    • Represent Pursuit at key media conferences and tradeshows.
    • Create communications materials including key message development, pitch ideas, press releases and other communication copy as required.
    • Help lead, mentor and manage Pursuit’s internal media and public relations team, driving best-in-class strategies, tactics and processes in all the geographies we operate in.
    • Support crisis communications and issues management, developing key messaging and working with internal and external stakeholders to protect and manage the reputation of the brand.
    • Build strong relationships with senior leadership and work collaboratively with other internal stakeholders to develop and communicate Pursuit’s top stories and strategic messages.
    • Provide strategic external communications counsel to senior leadership and key stakeholders including managing ongoing media training as needed.
    • Manage budgets, as well as PR agencies and other external support organizations.
    • Serve as media spokesperson as required.

What skills and experience do you need for this job?

  • Ideal Skills and Experience

    • 8+ years public/media relations experience.
    • 5+ years’ experience in travel, tourism or hospitality preferred.
    • University degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or relevant professional experience.
    • Experience in executing impactful media relations and creator strategies that result in continued positive earned content and coverage.
    • Possess strong writing skills.
    • Experience developing key messaging and managing crisis communications issues.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of management.
    • Ability to manage a team to execute successful campaigns.
    • Desire to work in a fast-paced, always-on organization.
    • PR agency experience a plus.
    Ability to travel internationally
