One role will support the Corporate Controller’s office by working closely with the External Reporting, Forecasting and Stewardship, and SAP Finance Solutions departments. This role provides hands-on experience in financial reporting, forecasting, and system support, offering a comprehensive view of the financial operations within a large organization. The student will gain valuable insights into external reporting, financial forecasting, and SAP finance solutions, while interacting with key stakeholders across various finance functions.

Another role will support the Operations Controller’s office by working closely with the business unit finance teams. This role provides hands-on experience in journal entries, analysis and supporting functions, offering a comprehensive view of the financial operations within a large organization. The student will gain valuable insights into the operations of a large energy company, while interacting with key stakeholders across various finance functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and regulatory filings, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and accuracy in external reporting.

  • Support financial forecasting and variance analysis, helping to prepare stewardship reports and other financial insights for internal stakeholders.

  • Provide support for finance-related systems, particularly SAP, including assisting with updates, troubleshooting, and use support.

  • Contribute to the reconciliation and preparation of financial data, ensuring consistency across various finance functions.

  • Participate in cross-departmental projects aimed at enhancing financial processes, improving system efficiencies, and supporting overall financial stewardship.

  • Assist in the preparation of journal entries, ensuring accuracy with accounting policy.

Skills and Competencies

  • Understanding of financial reporting principles, regulatory requirements, and forecasting techniques.

  • Strong ability to analyze financial data, perform variance analysis, and contribute to financial planning.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with finance teams and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to work effectively within and across teams, supporting multiple finance functions and contributing to cross-functional projects.

Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada full-time for the duration of your work term and able to produce documentation upon application (e.g., work visa) 

  • Available to begin work in May 2025.

  • Knowledge of SAP will be an asset.

  • Highly detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in data entry and documentation.

Education

  • Must be enrolled in a business degree focused on Accounting, Commerce or Finance major at an accredited post-secondary institution at the time of intended work term and returning to full-time studies after the work term OR registered in an accredited post-secondary co-op or internship program for the duration of the work term.

  • Candidates currently enrolled in either a master’s or Ph.D. program at an accredited post-secondary institution may also be considered.

  • New graduates are not eligible for student opportunities.
