SAIT Youth Initiatives is hiring a Youth Programs Coordinator to join our team as a maternity leave cover-off. This role is a 12-month temporary full-time position, covering a maternity leave. This position involves providing support to the Manager, Strategic Youth Initiatives, while working closely with the other Youth Programs Coordinators to ensure the successful planning and delivery of Youth Program experiences for youth in grades 7-12. This role will also provide support to the youth initiatives team as needed in support of programming that engages youth and that contributes to the overall vision for the youth initiatives portfolio.

As a coordinator, you will be responsible for instructing and engaging youth in grades 6-12 about career exploration and educational pathway navigation through youth events, community outreach, and exploratory and transition programs. Particular focus will be on facilitating experiences that allow youth to engage in career exploration that explores the awareness, mindset, and confidence in pursuing post-secondary education. Furthermore, building and maintaining critical relationships with key stakeholders throughout secondary, post-secondary, industry, and community organizations, are important aspects of this role, as well as the ability to plan and implement programming for youth quickly and effectively.

The Role

    • Program Delivery - 50%
    • Instruct and lead Youth Foundations and Exploratory Programs (Launch Workshops, Youth Events, Indigenous Youth Programs and Turning Points) for youth in grades 7-12.
    • Lead the planning and coordination of youth events, managing timelines, schedules, budget, and various stakeholder relationships.
    • Adapt program schedules, event plans and workshops to accommodate varying needs and skill levels of participants.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.
    • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to participants during program sessions.
    • Comfortable to deliver programming to a youth audience or teacher audience.
    • Assists with coordination of special events on SAIT Campus and offsite.
    • Assist other team members as needed with program areas, including delivering sessions for youth programs as required.
    • Utilize data provided through various means to make informed and strategic programming decisions and recommendations.
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of participants during program activities.
    • Implement and enforce safety protocols and guidelines to create a secure environment.
    • Respond promptly and appropriately to any emergencies or incidents that may occur while the program is being delivered.
    • Other duties as required to support the vision and goals of SAIT Youth Initiatives.

    • Program Development/Technical Updates - 30%
    • Work with other program coordinators to create engaging program schedules, workshops and event plans for Youth Foundations and Exploratory Programs (Launch Workshops, Youth Events, Indigenous Youth Programs and Turning Points), incorporating up to date career and educational pathway navigation concepts and topics.
    • Demonstrate a strong understanding of facilitating and creating workshops, planning and coordinating events and creating activity schedules on career exploration and educational pathway navigation for a diverse youth audience.
    • Troubleshoot technical issues that may arise during program sessions and provide solutions or seek assistance when needed.

    • Communication and Reporting - 20%
    • Maintain effective communication with participants, teachers, and internal/external program and event stakeholders.
    • Evaluate effectiveness of programs; identifying trends in participant feedback, surveys, attendance, etc.
    • Provide information for reporting purposes back to the Project Manager - Strategic Youth Initiatives when required.
    • Ensure that assigned programs and tasks are delivered on time and within budget.

Qualifications & Experience

    • Minimum
    • Diploma or certificate in teaching and learning
    • 3 years working with youth as a program facilitator
    • Experience leading the planning and development of youth programs for youth in grades 7-12 and teachers
    • Relevant experience leading the planning and implementation of youth events, managing timelines, schedules, budget, and communication with various stakeholders
    • Comfortable to deliver and facilitate programming and workshops to a diverse youth audience and teacher audience
    • Ability to quickly build rapport and create an engaging learning environment
    • Must have proof of education and certifications
    • Current and valid first aid and CPR level C
    • Background check with Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS)
    • Valid Alberta Driver's license; access to a vehicle

    • Preferred
    • Bachelor degree in education, or social work (or equivalent) with extensive experience in youth programming (K-12)
    • 4-year experience working with youth (junior high and high school aged)
    • Experience managing events: budget, planning, executing, and closing
