At SMS Equipment, our Service Supervisors are responsible for the safe, efficient and economical operation of the branch. The Service Supervisor will ensure a safe working environment for all team members as well as maintaining customer focus, providing leadership, managing change exerting influence to drive positive outcomes, and ensuring efficient execution of technical tasks. This position is in Edmonton, AB.

The shift rotation for this position is 7x7.

The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $120,000.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Implement safety protocols, guidelines, and training programs to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits, identify potential hazards and take necessary corrective action.
  • Investigate and report accidents, incidents, and near-misses, analyzing root causes and implementing preventive measures.
  • Provide communication and enforce policies to team members on health, safety and environmental issues as required by the Company's policies and procedures.
  • Monitor all shop tooling and equipment to ensure they are suitable for their intended purpose in the workplace, meet safety and regulatory requirements, are properly operated, and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Provide clear direction and guidance to Team Members, setting performance expectations and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Identify training and development needs of Team Members and facilitate appropriate training programs.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback and coaching to enhance individual and team performance.
  • Resolve conflicts and address performance issues in a fair and timely manner.
  • Act as a change agent, effectively managing and implementing changes in processes, procedures, and systems.
  • Ensure efficient execution of service repair and maintenance by providing necessary resources, tools, and guidance.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, regulations, and advancements, and share relevant information with team members.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, providing guidance and support to resolve them promptly.
  • Collaborate with technical experts and participate in training programs to enhance technical knowledge and skills.
  • Organize work, including prioritizing assignments, assigning job tasks, and managing workflow in and out.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with customers to address concerns and resolve issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance internal and external customer experience and satisfaction.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience as a ticketed Heavy Equipment Technician, along with a minimum of three years in a leadership role. Additional qualifications include:

  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations, protocols, and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and develop team members.
  • Proficient in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Strong technical aptitude, with the ability to understand and execute complex tasks.
  • Customer-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering exceptional service.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through change and influence outcomes.
