Do you have a passion for empowering students to fulfil their personal, academic and professional goals? We are looking for a Supervisor of International Engagement and Settlement to support NAIT's diverse group of students.

Reporting to the Manager, International Student Experience, the Supervisor, International Engagement and Settlement provides support, leadership, and direction to a dynamic team of engagement coordinators and engagement assistants. The supervisor develops, delivers, and evaluates programs, services, and events that support students' settlement, academic and career education journeys. The supervisor works and collaborates with key stakeholders to promote internationalization across the institution and deliver programs/events to realize strategic goals, especially those pertaining to newcomer community building and engagement and retention. The Supervisor consistently monitors department activities to proactively identify and report trends, issues or concerns to the Manager, and is ultimately accountable for ensuring a highly impactful, positive international student experience.

This position requires a high level of intercultural competence to work with a highly diverse team and student population. The supervisor will foster a positive environment to collaborate and create student programing, keeping international student needs at the heart of the process. Understanding the international student experience is paramount for success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team and support engagement programs such as cultural events, onboarding programs like International Student Orientation (ISO) International Peer Group (IPG) and other engagement activities through the year.
  • Coordinate the unit's operational hours to balance event coverage and other essential work.
  • Work closely with the front line at the International and Intercultural Community Centre (IICC) to foster a vibrant, safe, community space and ensure coverage at the front desk.
  • Collaborate with the broader International Student Experience team to create a streamlined approach to supporting the international student experience.
  • Research settlement and engagement best practices and literature.
  • Provide mentoring, training and developmental activities for staff.
  • Identify, recommend, and/or implement programming and process improvements.
  • Handle escalations with the IICC and engagement events.
  • Participate in departmental strategic planning.
  • Work with marketing team to ensure programs, services, and events are promoted to target audiences.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of NAIT's mission, goals, and values in addition to NAIT's Global Education strategy and NAIT International's vision.
  • Substantial knowledge of and experience with event planning.
  • Familiarity with and ability to research, comprehend, and apply theories on student development and support services.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strength in working with cross campus partners, staff, administration, and outside agencies.
  • Positive attitude and teamwork orientated.
  • Ability to work in a flexible and changing environment.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals from over 80 countries.
  • Strong communication skills, including interpersonal, written, presentation, and facilitation.
  • A high level of self-awareness and the capacity to work within complex environments of diverse populations complemented with high levels of intercultural communication skills.
  • Support the development and administration of evaluation techniques.
  • Flexibility, willingness to learn new approaches, ability to synthesize information and develop innovative solutions to problems.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills to ensure delivery of services and special projects meet deadlines that are within standards and on budget.
  • Strategic thinking and goal development skills.
  • Computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, Outlook, PeopleSoft and survey technology is essential; capacity to learn new systems is important.


Qualifications:

  • Related post-secondary diploma.

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.

  • Extensive related experience (minimum of five years) with a minimum of three years in event planning and coordination. Preference is given if the experience is within an educational setting.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

  • Equivalencies may be considered.

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).


Remuneration: $67,738.32 - $91,093.60 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Coordinator ll).

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
