Job Description

We are looking for a Conference Services Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a solid, career-focused background in Conference Services and Catering. We seek someone who is sales-oriented, creative, and innovative, with a friendly and persuasive personality.

What you will be doing:

  • Assemble and distribute consistent, concise resumes and banquet event orders that clearly represent a convention's every requirement for all departments
  • Work closely with the client and key hotel departments throughout the duration of their conference, being available to assist them at the appropriate times
  • Responsible for the successful outcome of assigned programs from pre-arrival through to post-departure
  • Work closely with the Conference Services Director and Catering Team to establish new theme menus, special events and service standards
  • Ensure hotel costs are effectively controlled
  • Work closely with the Sales department to ensure all contractual terms agreed upon are executed upon (including the management of Guest Room Attrition and follow-up on Deposit Schedule)
  • Maintain the integrity of Opera Sales & Catering at all times
  • Oversee activities and guest experience related to the appropriate packages
  • Complete special event P&Ls prior to all hotel special events and packages with the Director of Conference Services
  • Maintain files, records and reporting as it pertains to: budgets, contacts, planning activities, time lines, contracts, purchase orders and post meeting notes
  • Act as Service Manager for Business Development Tours hosted by Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise
  • Departmental payroll administration.

Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

  • Operational Food & Beverage experience in a Hotel environment required
  • Proven ability to plan and organize events effectively, with an acute sense of detail & creativity
  • Assertive, professional and positive with a proven ability to develop and lead in a team environment
  • Understanding of computers and applications ideally with a strong working knowledge of Opera Sales & Catering, MS Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Must be able to work independently and maintain a positive attitude within a very busy environment ~ hours will fluctuate with evening and weekend work required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven skills and comfort with public speaking
  • Degree or diplomas in Hotel Administration from a recognized University/College/Polytechnic institute an asset
  • Minimum 1 year event and/or catering experience required
