Department: Abbotsford AHL & Abbotsford Centre
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director, Marketing will lead the Marketing function of the AHL team as well as the Abbotsford Centre and oversee the planning, development, and execution of all campaigns contained within the marketing plan that support the goals and initiatives of the Abbotsford AHL Team's commercial retail, community, and fan engagement departments; as well as Abbotsford Centre event marketing and ticket sales.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the strategy, planning, and execution of corporate annual marketing plan supporting Ticket Sales, Member Retention, Partnership Marketing, Corporate Partnership, Retail, Hospitality, Community, Premium Experience, Human Resources and Fan Engagement department initiatives
  • Lead the Marketing function and oversee the day-to-day supervision, growth, and development of all team members
  • Oversee the marketing department budget, optimizing spend through analytics-driven decision making and strategic discipline
  • Act as the lead champion of the digital marketing process and support the development and execution of marketing campaigns
  • Support the development and management of all digital properties including web, social, and mobile
  • Liaise with the Content and Creative stakeholders to develop marketing collateral aligned to campaign goals and overall brand standards
  • Work in concert with the brand stakeholders to develop annual brand theme and maintain brand standards throughout all fan touchpoints
  • Support all paid and contra-based marketing relationships with third-party vendors including local and regional media organizations
  • Support partnership activations to realize client goals and deliver partnership value by improving the quality, customer experience, and engagement of all activations
  • Grow our fan base within identified target segments and execute targeted campaigns to improve overall affinity and loyalty
  • Provide retail merchandising leadership to that team in an effort to optimize item portfolio and drive strong sales margins
  • Oversee the overall ticket marketing strategy and manage the day-to-day planning, execution, and reporting on the performance of all marketing platforms (both traditional and digital mediums)
  • Manage and work in collaboration with our game operations staff to deliver a memorable fan experience at all Abbotsford Canucks games
  • On-going improvement of the fan experience in game and across all touchpoints
  • Provide additional leadership to the Community team members in an effort to strengthen community engagement platforms and processes.
  • Collect data on all current and prospective ticket buyers to improve, personalize, and streamline the communication to all STM and ticket buyers
  • Propose new and innovative ideas or find and evaluate third-party vendors that address gaps in the business and integrate these solutions into daily operations
  • Work with various CSE departments to align resources and maximize efficiencies
  • Lead hockey team radio broadcast and live stream strategy
  • Support media relations for business operations
  • Role requires weekend and evening work hours

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma from a recognized institution in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 10 years of experience in strategic leadership of sales and/or marketing teams; experience within sports marketing preferred
  • Experience in digital marketing including web, email, social media and content
  • Experience in professional hockey and concerts marketing an asset
  • Experience with software applications such as Hubspot, Google Analytics, Omniture, etc.
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to work closely and cooperatively with internal and external clients at all levels
  • Experience leading a team - strategic direction, focusing effort, and driving passion and motivation towards the realization of department goals and objectives
  • Highly-organized and detail-oriented individual with outstanding administrative and time management skills
  • Experience compiling reports and giving presentations to senior executives
  • Skills driving both highly analytical as well as highly creative ideas to improve overall customer experiences
