This is aquatic leadership work in assisting a supervisor in the provision of aquatic instructional and recreational programs at Eileen Dailly Pool on an assigned shift, supervising and supporting the work of a moderate sized group of full-time, part-time and auxiliary lifeguards, instructors, and recreation attendants. As the Aquatic Leader 1 on shift, you will be responsible for, and participate in: deck supervision, lesson supervision and ensuring that the pool areas and changeroom areas are clean, safe and well maintained for the enjoyment of our residents while meeting standards of cleanliness and safety. The Aquatic Leader 1 will lead by example and be engaged in instructional, lifeguarding, maintenance, custodial and clerical work; while participating in the planning, organization and promotion of aquatic programs, aquatic fitness programs and special events. An Aquatic Leader 1 conducts swimming lessons, lifeguarding and safety training programs for aquatic staff and may participate in the hiring and evaluation of staff and volunteers. The Aquatic Leader 1 can be responsible for emergency response and will need to prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports while being skilled in working effectively and courteously with the public, user groups, and a diverse staff team. Performs related work as required.

Qualification includes completion of Grade 12, supplemented by courses in lifesaving, lifeguarding, aquatics instruction and pool operation and maintenance; plus sound related experience including some supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the theory and practice of lifesaving, lifeguarding, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, first aid and teaching methods and group leadership techniques emphasizing instruction in water safety and aquatic skills, and of pool operations including working knowledge of pool chemistry, water filtration, chlorination, heating and related pool equipment and operating procedures. We are looking for Aquatic Leader 1's with the knowledge of principles and practices involved in implementing, evaluating, organizing, and offering of instructional and recreational aquatic programs, and who are skilled to deal effectively and courteously with staff, public and user groups. Requirements of the position include a Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia; Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor, National Lifeguard - Pool Award, and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Certificate - Level C. Additional certifications like: Swim Instructor Trainer, National Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid Instructor, BCRPA Aquatic Fitness Leader, Pool Operator, etc. are an asset.

Schedule: 64 hours bi-weekly (0.80 FTE); Monday from 4:45 PM - 9:15 PM; Tuesday from 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM; Wednesday from 4:45 PM - 9:15 PM; Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
