Description

The Salvation Army is looking for outgoing, personable, and self-motivated individuals who want to impact their community positively. If you love the art of conversation, can engage the public and inspire them to donate to the cause, then you should join our team as a Christmas kettle host. Every dollar raised through this program goes back into the community to help feed, clothe and shelter those in need while helping others escape violence and addiction, and support new to Canada refugees to become part of the society.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greets and thanks donors courteously
  • Host kettle location and engage with public to encourage donations
  • Remains at the Kettle for the full shift (until relieved), ensuring security of donations received
  • Set up, take down, care and monitoring of kettles during shift
  • Respond to donor / public questions and or make appropriate referral liaise with regional coordinator; report any issues or concerns to coordinator
  • Presents a positive image (well groomed/dressed) for TSA while on duty
  • Liaise with store or property personnel / staff
  • Issue charitable tax receipt when necessary
  • Manage inventory and request supplies when necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Various availability Monday thru Saturday
  • Sensitivity to social issues within our community
  • Highly accountable, disciplined in standards, and results-driven
  • Interest in learning and applying feedback
  • Ability to work independently & part of a team
  • Interest in working outdoors
  • Previous sales experience an asset
  • Ability to stand for 4-4.5 hours
  • Positively represents the salvation army and reflect its mission and core values
  • Up to three months of prior related experience
  • Completed High School or equivalent
  • Related experience is an asset

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Must have reliable transportation to kettle location.
  • Fundraising experience
  • Multiple languages an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Able to lift 9 to 12 kgs (20 - 25 lbs).
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Honest, courteous, and punctual; represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
  • Strong customer service skills; enjoy liaising and working with people of all ages and abilities.
  • Willingness to be flexible and work well under pressure with daily timelines and changing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor, volunteer, and organizational information.
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

HOURS: Temporary Part-time: 12-34 Hours per week

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Attend a Kettle Host training session
  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
