Queen Margaret's School is looking for Equestrian Support Staff to join our team of talented, dedicated and professional horse people.

Horses have been central to life at Queen Margaret's school for over 100 years and for 60 years of those years our dedicated Equestrian Program has graduated young competitive riders, who are distinguished by their competence and confidence in the equestrian world as well as by their successes in other aspects of their lives

Equestrian Support Staff support and sustain the day-to-day operations of the Shirley Burr Equestrian Centre. Equestrian Support Staff are responsible for the daily welfare and wellbeing of the horses, supporting the operational needs of the Rider Development Program, as well as the required upkeep and functioning of the Equestrian Centre.

Responsibilities are assigned based on experience level and program needs. Daily duties may include the following:


  • Stall and paddock cleaning
  • Ensuring all horses are fed and watered at all times
  • Administer, treat, and care for any ailments, injuries or medications required for horses
  • Handle horses in and out of turnouts and paddocks, to and from stalls and any other movements around the facility
  • Prepare horses for rides including blanketing and un-blanketing, grooming, and tacking up horses
  • Assist coaches/facilitators in Rider Development & Equine Facilitated Wellness Programs operational preparation, implementation and clean-up
  • Harrow arena using a tractor and rake harrow
  • Repair any broken boards or fences
  • Assist in simple maintenance repairs or tasks as required
  • Any other equine related responsibilities that may arise

Preference will be given to applicants who also have the following experience, skills and qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of an equine stables with 30+ horses on site
  • Possess a positive attitude and 'can do' approach
  • Knowledge of safety practices and industry standards with regard to horse care
  • Act as a knowledgeable resource for best practices in basic medical treatments, equine nutritional needs and equine behavioural management
  • Ability to represent the QMS Equestrian Program in a professional, enthusiastic, and positive manner
  • Must have a level of physical fitness suitable to perform the manual tasks and physical demands of this position including lifting, bending, twisting, reaching, grasping, carrying.
  • A valid BC Drivers License
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.


Working Pattern:

  • Weekends required
