Accountabilities
Oversee or complete tasks necessary for daily operation of the GBR.
Oversee or perform all tasks related to the care and well-being of Boo within established wildlife practices and protocols, including:
Regular monitoring.
Medical care and/or assessment of Boo's health.
Supplemental and regular feeding.
Maintenance of perimeter fencing, over wintering yard and habitat.
Capture and restraint as necessary for veterinary care and/or transport.
Design, maintain and upgrade the captive wildlife habitat to enrich the physiological and psychological welfare of Boo.
Liaise with external government agencies and institutions as necessary and ensure compliance with any and all relevant regulations.
Assist in planning and administration of summer operations for the GBR, including budgeting, capital planning, hours and dates of operation, and access levels.
Manage and monitor expenses according to budget parameters, including general expenses, labour, revenue and capital spending.
Hire, train, schedule and manage staff to ensure efficient and effective operation of the GBR.
Manage the short and long-term planning for GBR strategies, programs and products.
Develop and enforce public safety precautions for guests and staff.
Oversee or conduct interpretive tours during summer operating period and engage in initiatives to increase public awareness of the GBR and bear education.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge through involvement and participation with research and/or educational networks or associations within the wildlife community, contributing to research as required.
Implement and maintain a database of historical data, procedural techniques and basic care procedures for Boo, making it accessible to KHMR management and other members of the wildlife community.
Participate in the planning process for the introduction of future captive bears.
Be a safety ambassador, ensuring a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
A minimum of 5 years experience in the wildlife care and/or public education program delivery including experience in cooperative wildlife husbandry and research or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of bear biology.
Experience with production of annual reports and synthesizing research and data.
Previous experience with managing a business unit, including financial accountability.
Demonstrated previous experience effectively managing or supervising a team.
Experience with advocacy, or previous experience working directly with the public and/or the media to further awareness of wildlife issues.
Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
Must hold a current Class 5 Drivers License with own vehicle.
Must hold a valid PAL certificate.
Able to access the GBR by skiing or snowboarding.
Previous snowmobile experience - an asset.

Working Conditions & Occupational Requirements
Must be able to work flexible hours on occasion and role is inclusive of periods of decreased hours in accordance with seasonal operations.
Must be physically capable of lifting up to 40 lbs.
Must be physically able to stand or walk for extended shifts (10 hours) over rough terrain, in all outdoor conditions.
Must be comfortable with wildlife interaction (grizzly bear, wild black bears, etc.).
Exposure to severe weather conditions for extended periods of time (rain, snow, cold, wind).
