Position: Apprentice Lift Mechanic

Reports to: VP Operations, Mountain Manager, Lead Hand Employment: Full Time

Job Description: Apprentice Lift Mechanics are primarily responsible for assisting in the repair and maintenance of ski lifts. They also assist in daily operations in conjunction with the Lift Operations crew. They may also be called upon to assist in any other maintenance or repairs that fall within the scope of their skill set

Position Requirements/Skills:

  • Good communications skills, self-motivated, mature, dependable, timely and able to work well with others
  • Willing and able to work in all weather conditions
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Ability to operate snowmobiles, snowcats, heavy equipment and trucks in a safe and responsible manner (training provided)
  • Good working knowledge of current WorksafeBC regulations
  • Able to work overtime if required
  • Have a high level of attention of detail

Working towards:

  • Completing apprenticeship
  • Lift 151, 152, 153 courses
  • Familiar with the CSA Z-98 code
  • Operators certificates for forklifts
  • Gaining knowledge in: hydraulic, hydrostatic and low voltage systems
  • Gaining experience in: rigging, hoisting, welding and cutting
  • Building inventory of necessary tools

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To perform all duties assigned by Lift Maintenance Manager and Lead Hand
  • Assist with ensuring all lifts are maintained to CSA Z-98 code and manufacturer's recommendations
  • Assist in emergency situations
  • Report and rectify any unsafe conditions
  • Keep a clean, organized and safe work environment
  • Assist in the development and evolution of safe work practices
  • Adherence to safe work practices and company policy
  • Use courtesy and respect when dealing with management, staff, co-workers, and guests at all times
  • Read and interpret manuals and drawings
  • Documentation of all maintenance performed
  • Exercise safe rigging practices
  • Maintenance and cleaning of tools, shop and shop yard
  • Maintenance of stationary machines

Learn to diagnose and effect repairs on:

  • Line machinery
  • Tension systems
  • Grips and Carriers
  • Conveyors and conveying equipment
  • Diesel and gasoline engines
  • Electric motors
  • Hydraulic and Hydrostatic systems, and components
  • Gearboxes
  • Belt and chain drives
  • Clutches, drive shafts, spraggs
  • Braking systems
  • Low voltage control circuits
  • Bearings and bushings
  • Pumps, compressors and blowers
  • Snowmobiles
  • Grooming equipment
  • Heavy equipment

Wage Range: $25.00 - $39.00/hr Depending on the year of apprenticeship

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb and lie down for the duration of the shift.
  • Must be able to operate a snowmobile
  • Ability to lift and carry 25kg (55lbs) at times.
  • Must be able to kneel, bend, twist, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill duties.
  • Must be able to perform a loaded twist (torqueing a wrench)
  • Be able to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Requires grasping, tool use, writing, standing, sitting, driving, shoveling, repetitive motions, climbing, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity.
