Description

The Special Events Coordinator will provide support and oversight to the organization of and/or the development of seasonal fundraising special events (Christmas Campaign). The funds raised from these events will support The Salvation Army Okanagan Central's Christmas Gifts of Hope program and other year-round community support programs and initiatives.

Hours:

  • 20 to 40 hours per week
  • October 1, 2024 - December 24, 2024
  • Days and Hours will be set by Supervisor

Due to the nature of this position flexibility in days and hours is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizes fundraising initiatives in cooperation with sponsors for the Christmas season on behalf of The Salvation Army Okanagan Central Community Church and Ministries.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communication strategy and accompanying materials
  • Develops, prepares, edits and distributes special events materials (i.e., brochures, newsletters, fact sheets, media releases, business letters, photographs, video, etc., along with content for internet websites)
  • Works closely with the fundraising team/s, senior management and other stakeholders to assist with the development of brand imaging.
  • Monitors expenditures for special events to ensure conformity to budget provisions
  • Provides support to the development, stewardship and special event programs; may include set up and technical support where required
  • May organize and maintain a media library of relevant pictures, newspaper clippings, video, audio, internet links, etc.; maintains up-to-date listing of all media contacts
  • Assists in the preparation of displays, exhibits, PowerPoint presentations, etc. providing materials as required; may manage exhibit booths
  • Give direction and supervision to volunteers assisting with special events.
  • Receives monetary and non-monetary donations with strict adherence to The Salvation Army's policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of high school.
  • Completion of a two (2) year Community College Diploma is an asset.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Experience in communications, public relations or equivalent combination of education
  • Training and experience in a relevant field Knowledge of community-based resources is required and experience networking within the community.
  • Hold a valid BC Class "5" drivers licence, own vehcile and insurance and provide a copy of a driver's abtract for review and veritifcation that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discrection.
  • Must have a solid understanding of basic to intermediate computer operation including Microsoft 365 programs, data entry, internet browsers, and some file management and ability to create reports.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • Completion of our online Praesidium Child Abuse Prevention Training, Respect in the Workplace, Health and Safety training, and other required training
