Job Summary

The Assistant Manager, Rentals and Mountain Adventures is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of all Rental and Mountain Adventure department areas - including but not limited to the Outpost Rental Shop, Mountain Ziplines, and the Mountain Ropes Adventure. Supporting the Mountain Adventures Manager, the Assistant Manager provides guidance and leadership for the front line and supervisory teams, while ensuring KPI's are met and looking for opportunities of continued growth in all aspects of the department.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all department areas and activities including but not limited to all Rental areas, Mountain Ziplines, Eye of the Wind, Mountain Ropes Adventure, Kids Tree Canopy Adventure, and associated department areas.
  • Completing opening and closing duties of the department and coordinating day-to-day operations of the Mountain Adventures team.
  • Handling cash and ensuring accounting procedures are followed including daily cash outs and float reconciliation.
  • Assist all front-line staff in daily operations when required in all areas including the Rental Technician and Mountain Adventures Guide roles.
  • Supporting the Mountain Adventures Manager with oversight of daily operations, including meeting or exceeding KPI's for each department area.
  • Assists with annual planning for continued growth of department areas in fiscal, staffing and operational aspects.
  • Monitoring areas and activities for risk management, as well as assessing and intervening when situations require, according to company policies.
  • Recruiting, training, scheduling, and developing up to 60 individuals to guide daily operations of the department activities, including new hire training, refresher training and rescue training.
  • Inventory and purchasing of department supplies and equipment as required throughout the year.
  • Completing internal payroll, data entry, performance reviews, daily logs, and other company documentation according to outlined standards.
  • Managing the guest experience and ensure service standards are met or exceeded to achieve a high Net Promotor Score, including sharing results with staff on a regular basis.
  • Achieving and maintaining outstanding customer relations with internal and external guests, including responding to customer comments and concerns while displaying a Guest Obsessed attitude at all times.
  • Creating, implementing, and revising training and procedures, including manuals, presentations, and memos.
  • Promoting a positive work environment and culture by leading by example and maintaining strong and supportive relationships with all staff
  • Ensuring staff communication sites are updated regularly with company communication, revised policies/procedures, guest satisfaction scores and operational information.
  • Managing PPE and equipment inventory, including detailed testing and inspection in accordance with company and manufacturer standards.
  • Completing detailed inspections and maintenance of department areas on a regular basis and assisting with seasonal activity maintenance as required.
  • Engaging with the senior management team, demonstrating proactive, positive, and effective communication to facilitate and support teamwork and cooperation.
  • Setting and contributing to department goals for increasing sales and improving profits, including managing payroll and adjusting to reflect business needs.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position provides direct supervision and leadership to the Rental Supervisors, Mountain Adventure Supervisors, Rental Technician, Rental Team Lead, Mountain Adventures Guide, and Mountain Adventures Lead Guide positions.

Required Qualifications and Abilities

  • Excellent leadership, communication, customer service and organizational skills through a strong work ethic, innovative thinking, and a positive attitude.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with guests in English in a respectful and enthusiastic manner by email, over the telephone and in person.
  • First Aid qualifications considered an asset.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to drive a Guest Obsessed culture.
  • Ability to think and act strategically; work independently and manage time efficiently.
  • High energy, outgoing, approachable and a strong work ethic
  • Strong ability to multitask, prioritize and delegate duties amongst a team, with a focus on safety.
  • Excellent work ethic and attitude, with the ability to thrive in a high-volume, challenging environment.
  • Successful completion of secondary school required, with some post-secondary education preferred.
  • At least 2 years previous experience supervising employees in a quick service or outdoor recreation environment required.
  • Must be able to work at heights and understand the requirements of mandatory safety at heights.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, and experience with Siriusware POS an asset, including cash handling and cash-out procedures.
  • Available for five days per week and to work a flexible schedule including opening, closing, weekends, and holidays.

Working Conditions

The Mountain Adventures team perform some of their duties outdoors and may work in all different kinds of weather conditions. Hours of Operation are weather dependent. Due to the nature of the business, this position requires flexibility in terms of your work schedule. A variety of work schedules may include a variety of start times, including shifts on weekends and statutory holidays. Shifts require standing for long periods of time, lifting, twisting, shoveling and other forms of manual tasks.

Compensation and Benefits

$52,000 to $57,200, annually
