JOB SUMMARY

As a Bike Park Patroller, you are an essential part of the Mountain Operations team, acting as a safety resource for all staff and guests while ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience in the Bike Park. Under the direct supervision of the Patrol Supervisor and Patrol Manager, Bike Park Patrollers assist in the daily safety operations of the mountain - providing first aid for injured guests and staff, monitoring trail conditions, maintaining safety signage and fencing and responding to emergencies.

This position requires Advanced-Level Mountain Biking skills, strong risk management abilities, and the physical fitness necessary to perform in a demanding outdoor environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide first aid to injured guests and staff, responding quickly and effectively to incidents
  • Patrol bike park trails ensuring rider safety and enforcing park rules and regulations
  • Open and close bike trails according to safety procedures and park conditions
  • Monitor trail conditions identifying and reporting hazards such as fallen debris, erosion or damaged features
  • Maintain safety signage, fencing and trail markers to ensure clear communication of trail difficulty and potential risks
  • Assist with accident investigations and complete detailed incident reports
  • Educate guests on safety protocols, trail etiquette and bike handling best practices
  • Respond to emergency procedures as required, including medical evacuations
  • Perform gondola, chairlift and tram evacuation/rope procedures if necessary
  • Assist with park maintenance including minor trail repairs and hazard removal
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure overall guest safety across the resort
  • Other duties as required

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position reports directly to the Patrol Supervisor and Patrol Manager, with no direct supervisory responsibilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced-level Mountain Biking skills, with experience riding technical trails and features
  • High level of physical fitness to meet the demands of trail patrol, emergency response, and potential bike-assisted rescues
  • Minimum 80-hour first aid certification, such as:
    • Occupational First Aid - Advanced
    • Outdoor Emergency Care
    • Non-Urban Emergency Care
    • BC Licensed EMR or PCP
  • Comfortable working at heights with a basic understanding of rope rescue. Internal training will be provided.
  • Strong risk management and decision-making skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Must be able to ride safely and effectively in all weather conditions
  • Successful candidates must complete a criminal record check upon receiving an offer. Grouse Mountain will assist with the process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in patrol, search and rescue, outdoor guiding or emergency response roles
  • Experience with trail maintenance and hazard identification
  • Rope rescue or technical evaluation experience
  • Experience operating ATV's or off-road vehicles
  • Knowledge of bike park operations and trail building
  • Experience in public relations or customer service
  • Familiarity with advanced first aid protocols such as Epi-Pen, Entonox or spinal immobilization techniques

WORKING CONDITIONS

Bike Park Patrollers perform most of their duties outdoors and may work in all types of weather conditions including rain, heat and rough terrain. Hours of Operation are weather dependant. Due to the nature of the business, this position requires flexibility in terms of your work schedule. A variety of work schedules may include a variety of start times, including shifts on weekends and statutory holidays. Shifts require extended periods of riding, lifting, carrying equipment and other manual tasks.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$21.21 to $24.81/hour
