Job Summary:

The Terrain Park teams at Grouse Mountain consist of designers, builders, park groomers, and Terrain Park Rangers. They are responsible for designing, building, and maintaining all the features in the Terrain Park. This exciting and innovative work plays a key role in attracting guests to Grouse Mountain.

The Terrain Park at Grouse Mountain features jumps, snow features, rails of, boxes, and wallrides. Ensuring these features are rideable and meet Grouse Parks' standards is challenging work. The North Shore experiences some of the most diverse weather systems in BC, causing snow levels to fluctuate daily, and even hourly. As a result, takeoffs, in particular, need to be hand-shaped multiple times a day and night.

Essential Job Functions:

Terrain Park crews conduct daily maintenance to ensure safety. They constantly adjusting features, marking any hazards with bamboo, and check that all signage is properly displayed. The Terrain Park staff are also responsible for testing all features to ensure they are in good riding/skiing condition for all Terrain Park users. They furthermore evaluate the flow of the rail sections, and navigate sequential jumps. These test runs are essential for ensuring guest safety and effective risk management.

The Terrain Park Rangers are also responsible for the layout and flow of the park. The flow of the park is an important aspect of park safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Documenting and coordination any incidents/accidents that may occur in the terrain park. These include all appropriate documents related to terrain park incidents.
  • Jump measurement procedures (NSAA)
  • Installing & resetting features by hand
  • Rebuilding and shaping takeoffs for jib features
  • Ensuring all jumps are measured and recorded to our guidelines
  • All jumps to be cut and shaped to our “Shaping” checklist.
  • Cut & reinstall broken feature panels using power tools
  • Ensuring that all fencing, signs, and feature markers entrance is properly setup at all times during operating hours, and that they are properly taken down for grooming and maintenance.
  • Keeping hourly/daily traffic counts for all terrain park zones for statistical purposes, also monitoring traffic to watch out for those skiers/riders who should not be in the terrain park due to their ability level.
  • Assisting with all events throughout the season including pre-event promotion in the Terrain Park, event setup, maintenance, and breakdown.
  • Rotate on overnight builds throughout the season (minimum 1 years park experience)
  • Other duties as required

Required Qualifications and Abilities

  • Possess strong skiing/riding ability.
  • Terrain Park maintenance experience preferred
  • Possess strong understanding of terrain parks
  • Ability to work mornings, night shifts and graveyard shift. On either 8 hour or 10 hours shifts throughout the season.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow direction, work with a team as well as complete tasks with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions

Terrain Park Rangers perform all their duties outdoors and may work in various mountain weather conditions.

Due to the nature of the job, flexibility in your work schedule is required. Shifts may include rotations, day and evening shifts, graveyard shifts, weekends, and statutory holidays. The work involves shoveling, shaping, lifting, twisting, and other manual tasks related to operating a Terrain Park.

Compensation and Benefits

$18.40/hour up to $21.52/hour
