Job Summary | Working under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Maintenance Grounds Person will perform general maintenance of the buildings, grounds and equipment in a variety of areas and in compliance with applicable codes and regulations. |
Specific Duties | • Perform general maintenance of buildings and grounds. • Assists in architectural repairs, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting duties, etc. • Assist with emergency procedures, not limited to, fire alarms and emergency evacuation. • Monitor, inspect, and maintain mechanical and emergency systems in all areas. • Use, operate, maintain, and repair tools and power equipment. • Perform preventative maintenance tasks on Facilities Services equipment and fleet vehicles. • Assist in College operations and events including but not limited to event set-up and general clean-up. • Prepare labour and cost estimates. • Maintain supply inventories, perform pick-ups and deliveries, and keep all records as required. • Responsible for snow and ice removal, and sanding. • Operate commercial grounds equipment including mowers, forklift, scissor lift, chainsaw, etc. • Perform all grounds keeping duties. • Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems. • Maintain, repair and install hard landscaping and grounds features including but not limited to sidewalks, concrete, pavers, curbs, signage, catch basins, fencing, etc. • Maintain parking lots and campus roadways, including but not limited line painting, asphalt/pothole repair, parking stop/barrier adjustment/installation etc. • Use various electronic devices including computers, two-way radios, etc. • Ensure that all assigned work orders are carried out according to priority and predetermined procedures and schedules. • Ensure that all work is carried out with the least amount of disruption to affected areas. • Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with all regulations, codes and legislation. • Assist other Facilities personnel as directed by Operations Manager • Other related duties as assigned by Operations Manager • You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners. • You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues. |
Skills & Qualifications | • Must have grade 12 graduation diploma or equivalent. • May be required to obtain Pesticide Applicators Certification and keep it current. • Three years relevant experience in institutional/commercial building and grounds maintenance or proven equivalent experience. • Working knowledge and experience is required in: - General maintenance and repair of institutional/commercial buildings and grounds. - Operation, maintenance, and repair of all related tools and equipment. - Operation and maintenance of grounds and irrigation systems. - Hard landscaping and grounds features, concrete, pavers, asphalt etc. - Parking lot maintenance - Safe work practices • A valid BC class 5 driver's license preferred. • Level 2 First Aid Ticket required or must obtain within 6 months. • Forklift certification required or must obtain within 6 months. • Scissor lift certification required or must obtain within 6 months. • Chainsaw certification required or must obtain within 6 months. • Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. • Good organizational skills. • Experience with computers and maintenance work order software systems is preferred. • Certification is also preferred in one or more of the following: - Locksmithing. - Installation, maintenance and repair of commercial window and door glazing systems. - Maintenance and repair of tools and equipment. |
