Compensation Range

The Recruitment and Admissions (R&A) unit at the UBC Sauder School of Business plays an integral role in the achievement of the UBC Sauder's commitment to attract, engage and retain students who represent diverse perspectives, experiences and identities (UBC Sauder Strategic Plan) by recruiting well-qualified, high-performing, community-minded, and diverse domestic and international students to meet the school's enrolment targets and goals.

The Associate Recruiter plans, coordinates and implements a variety of effective and innovative recruiting and advising services, programs and activities to prospective students in a variety of settings.


Organizational Status
Reports to the Director, Recruitment for Undergraduate + Professional Diploma & Certificate Programs. Receives direction from the Director, Recruitment for Professional Graduate Recruitment and the Assistant Dean, Recruitment and Admissions. Works closely with other members of the UBC Sauder R&A team, collaborates with other UBC Sauder units, UBC Enrolment Services, International Student Initiative, Commerce Undergraduate Society, UBC Student Housing and Community Services and First Nations House of Learning. The role is highly visible to the external community.

Work Performed

  • Plans and executes strategic, large-scale, multi-faceted recruitment fairs, activities and events, both domestically and overseas, both in person and online.

  • Meets with walk-in candidates and is the main point of contact for school and class visits for prospective and high potential students.

  • Prepares and may occasionally deliver presentations to small and large audiences of prospective students to support recruitment events and fairs, domestically and overseas.

  • Works closely with the Recruitment Sales Specialist and the Marketing and Communications team to conduct follow-ups with candidates from Canada and overseas and collaborates in the creation of marketing collateral

  • Evaluates the outcomes of various recruiting activities, collaborates with Managers/Recruiters to prepare post-trip reports in a timely manner and makes recommendations for changes and improvements.

  • Advises prospective students by applying knowledge and understanding of complex requirements and policies in making appropriate responses and offer advice based on individual assessment of each situation.

  • May provide students seeking admission to UBC Sauder programs with preliminary evaluation of their admissibility to the program through 1:1 virtual and in-person meetings.

  • Participates in interactive on-line chat, webinars and other types of virtual meetings with domestic and international prospective students to promote UBC Sauder graduate programs.

  • Responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of the student and alumni ambassador programs, under the guidance of the leadership team.

  • Uses CRM system to plan recruitment initiatives, record data obtained from Managers/Recruiters during recruitment trips and events, run reports and communicate with prospects and applicants. Reviews and adopts new systems as required to meet the goals of the unit.

  • Under direction of the Recruitment & Admissions senior management team mines data on the progress and origin of applications and provides timely reports on yield rates by region and type of event in terms of application and eligibilities to better inform and enhance future initiatives.

  • Contributes directly to the development of unit's policies and priorities and shares responsibility with the team on KPIs in support of the unit's strategic vision and enrolment targets.

  • Develops and enhances relations with faculty and employees across campus departments and within UBC Sauder.

  • Assumes responsibility for special projects assigned for Recruitment and Admissions.

  • Undertakes other recruitment-related activities and performs other duties as required.

  • May travel domestically and internationally occasionally as required.


Consequence of Error/Judgement
Poor decisions, judgment or errors would adversely affect the graduate applicants' career and/or academic opportunities. This in turn would jeopardize the reputation of the UBC Sauder School of Business and the University of British Columbia This position is able to handle a high volume of enquiries requiring very careful attention to detail and adherence to strict deadlines.

Supervision Received

Reports to the Director, Recruitment for Undergraduate + Professional Diploma & Certificate Programs, receives direction from the Director, Recruitment for Professional Graduate Recruitment and the Assistant Dean, Recruitment and Admissions.

Supervision Given
May supervise co-op or work learn students or student ambassadors.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of one to two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own

- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

- Excellent client service attitude.

- Experience in recruiting or academic advising is an asset.

- Good knowledge of the higher education industry and professional graduate programs.

- Proficient in the use of enterprise level information and CRM systems, experience with SalesForce is an asset.

- Technology fluency with proficiency in MS Office Suite and standard office software is required.

- Good knowledge of online modes of communication and learning, including the use of webinars and social media.

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills with demonstrated strong attention to detail.

- Ability to exercise mature judgment, diplomacy and have excellent interpersonal skills. Must be tactful in dealing with prospective students, staff and faculty in a multi-cultural setting.

- Exceptional organizational and communication skills (oral, written and presentation).

- Experience in event planning and execution. Ability to manage external stakeholder relationships.

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a high-functioning team in a fast-paced environment and results and KPI-driven office environment.

- Attendance at some evening and weekend events can be expected. Some overtime can be expected during busy periods.

- Fluency in a second language would be an asset.

- Knowledge of international educational systems is an asset.

- Background in marketing, psychology or public relations is an asset.
