The hourly wage, inclusive of a 1% wage differential, is $23.55 -$24.77.

Job Description Summary

Working at the University Centre or at any of the venues where Sage Catering operates, this position serves guests by providing bartending and food service for catered functions. The bartender position acts as the first point of contact for guests and clients. The position is responsible for maintaining a welcoming, professional and service-oriented environment for guests and clients.

Organizational Status

Reports to Manager, Assistant Manager, Catering Coordinators or Supervisor.

Work Performed

Sets up and maintains bars, mixes and pours drinks, conducts bar and facility clean up and requisitions and stores goods according to established procedures, as required.

Responsible for knowing the bar menu including ingredients and recipes for signature cocktails, beer & wine selection; provides answers to guests questions regarding the bar menu and makes recommendations and suggestions to enhance the guests experience including wine pairing.

Takes and serves beverage and food orders from patrons.

Delivers liquor order to function from catering office and returns all unused product after function.

Follows BAR Standard Operating Procedures, including verifying liquor order against function sheet requirements & recording inventory before and after function.

Tracks sales during function & ensure consumption sheets are always accurate

Counts cash float before and after function.

Acts as a member of the Sage Catering team, providing assistance to colleagues; and customer service and assistance to guests. Work in coordination with the service & kitchen staff to ensure the efficient operation of the catering functions.

Sets and resets tables as required with linen, china, cutlery, glassware and other setting arrangements; arranges tables and chairs and other furnishings as required for daily service and functions.

Stays informed with respect to all food and beverage menus, food and beverage promotions and specials and various functions.

Assists Banquet House-Person with picking-up and loading a delivery truck with beverages, supplies, equipment from a centralized food processing area and delivers to other units of Food Services and various individual areas throughout campus.

Performs the duties of other food service workers on a relief basis as operationally required.

Maintains proper standards of sanitation and safety in accordance with FoodSafe, UBC policy and UBC Food Services safety guidelines.

Works in all areas of the operation including Sage restaurant, Peter Wall Ideas Lounge and Sage catering.

Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Minor decisions related to the bar set up and maintenance; impact of error are easily corrected.

Supervision Received

Reports to the Banquet captains and takes direction from the supervisor, Assistant Manager & Manager.

Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with standard practice and reviewed on completion for adherence to standards. Unusual problems are referred to supervisor.

Works from oral and written instructions, simple drawings, floor plans, and within policies and procedures guidelines.

Supervision Given

None. May assist in training new bartenders.

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of formal bartending training from a recognized educational institution, Serving It Right certificates and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include mornings, evening, graveyards, weekends and holidays.

Good verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.

Familiarity with location and layout of campus facilities.

Physical ability to lift 30 kg.

Valid BC driver's license and good driving record
