POSITION: Director, CSE Business Communications

DEPARTMENT: Communications

REPORTS TO: A member of CSE’s Executive Leadership Team

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director, CSE Business Communications provides strategic leadership and direction on all business communications for CSE. This position is also responsible for developing and implementing strategies designed to initiate business communication that will leverage the Canucks (hockey) and Warriors (Lacrosse) brands in the community and for providing issue and message management for Ownership and the Senior Leadership Team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the creation and implementation of a business communications strategy consistent with marketing and brand strategies
  • Work with the President to support management of broadcast partner relationships
  • Work directly with Sportsnet to manage all local broadcast for TV and radio and ensuring on air and TV talent is delivering exceptional entertainment for our fans
  • Work with SVP, Marketing to implement business messaging and branding internally and throughout the community
  • Work with SVP, Marketing to identify and pursue team and player strategies with broadcast, website, and media outlets
  • Create and maintain overall budget for the Communications department
  • Build and nurture relationship with the National Hockey League, American Hockey League and National Lacrosse League
  • Work closely with CSE Ownership and CSE Leadership Teams on initiatives that significantly affect the strategic objectives of the organization
  • As required, act as spokesperson for certain company media requests to support the President, CSE Business Operations
  • Serve as a committed and responsible member of the Leadership Team, contributing to the strategic planning process

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in a related study or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in communications and media relations, with several years’ related industry experience
  • A solid understanding of and experience using all forms of media (e.g., print, TV, radio, internet), and a confident and thoughtful approach to providing guidance and expertise to senior representatives of the company
  • Solid experience in leading, motivating and developing employees
  • Superior listening skills with a level of intellectual ability/agility
  • A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization ahead of his/her own
  • Sound knowledge of NHL hockey and NLL Lacrosse
  • Creative and strategic thinker with an ability to take initiative
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior planning, organizational and administrative skills
  • Able to handle conflicting deadlines and prioritize
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with the ability to relate professionally to all levels of staff, community partners, management, clientele, and media
