  • Salary: Per Collective Agreement
  • Terms: Casual, On-call
  • Days and Hours: Variable days and shifts. Applicants must be available to work on Statutory Holidays, evenings, weekends and days as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, including residential rooms, common areas, classrooms, lobby areas and other common areas as may be assigned such as dining room, kitchen, laundry rooms, multi-purpose room and staff work areas and offices
  • Performs sweeping, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage, vacuums
  • Checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required
  • Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as balcony areas, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning main floors, outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and pruning shrubs, raking
  • Participates in ensuring building security, checks doors and windows to ensure they are locked and secure
  • Reports health and safety related concerns and repair issues (e.g. furniture and fixtures) that affect or may affect the workplace and residential environment for Staff and Residents
  • Restocks washroom supplies and hand hygiene units
  • Spot washes accessible walls, strips and waxes floors and shampoos carpet
  • Some work areas may participate in dorm room, office and/or classroom furniture moving
  • The performance of the job requires frequently operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, shoveling snow etc.
  • Frequent lifting of items such as garbage, laundry and other workspace related items- not normally to exceed 25 lbs. (note: for weights exceeding 25 lbs. - proper manpower and equipment will be supplied and utilized)
  • The performance of the job requires moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, and using non-motorized equipment and general cleaning
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have up to three months of prior related experience, including previous cleaning experience and familiarity with cleaning supplies and procedures
  • Building Service Worker (B.S.W.) Certification an asset
  • WHMIS certificate and working knowledge of universal precautions
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal behavioral skills
  • Must be agile and physically fit

Other Conditions:

  • Successful obtainment of clearance through The Salvation Army Child Abuse Registry
  • Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Record Check under the Criminal Records Review Program
  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
