Note: This is a hybrid work position in Calgary Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week. This provides flexibility the remaining 40% of the work week. This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues. Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

Overview of role:

We have big plans at WestJet. We are looking for a Senior Product Owner to join our Digital Product team to support our Day of Travel portfolio, including Digital Check-In, Kiosk and Self-Bag Drop applications. Working alongside the Portfolio Manager, Product Owners and Stakeholders, you'll play a critical role in bridging commercial asks with operational efficiency. You will help shape and implement a digital strategy focused on driving guest satisfaction and increased self-service.

The ideal candidate is a champion for digital channel performance and seamless product delivery, with a passion for enhancing the guests' Day of Travel journey. They bring a strong background in product development, excel at driving engagement and facilitating meaningful discussions. They demonstrate expertise in Stakeholder management, data-driven decision-making and collaboration with cross functional teams creating guest centered, impactful products. This individual should exhibit a high standard of excellence, enjoy challenges, and demonstrate the ability to work in an agile environment.

Key deliverables include:

  • Develop and report on Objectives and Key Results for Day of Travel products, tracking progress against defined metrics to measure success and adapt strategy as needed.
  • Regularly analyze and interpret data to provide actionable insights to continuously drive improvements to the Check-In experience, ensuring the product roadmap and prioritization align with key objectives.
  • Continuously monitor product performance, identifying trends, areas for optimization, and new opportunities to improve guest experience and operational efficiency.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and achievements to stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment on objectives across teams.
  • Lead end-to-end Product initiatives including development of user flows and stories (with UX/Design), and ongoing optimization in an Agile manner using Scrum methodology, using research and discovery.
  • Manage team deliverables and timelines related to projects, resolving conflicting priorities or removing scope where needed.
  • Research, recommend and lead implementation, where applicable, and suggest enhancements based on analysis of competitive digital channels and industry trends.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on how your products can support WestJet's strategy and vision.
  • Develop and manage relationships with business stakeholders to gather well-defined requirements in line with business objectives and manage expectations as well as gain sign off on deliverables.
  • Work with other business units (Marketing, Revenue Management, Experience Management, Customer Service, IT, etc) to identify and develop solutions for guest pain points and growth opportunities.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Completed Diploma or Bachelor's Degree (Technical/ Business/ Science)
  • 7+ years of experience working in digital or emerging technology
  • Experience working in/with airports and check-in considered an asset
  • Experience managing responsive design with a large consumer footprint
  • Experience working in and leading cross-functional teams in an agile environment
  • Experience defining scope and managing key deliverables for large projects
  • Experience with software development
  • Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent detailed written, verbal, presentation skills
  • Proven experience in backlog grooming, user story development and prioritization
  • A working history that shows a commitment to transparency, trust, and collaboration across all levels of seniority
  • A love for education and learning about best-in-class practices, customer experiences, and industry
  • Advanced knowledge in the following practices (preferred):
    • User Experience within responsive design
    • SCRUM/Agile Development
    • Web Analytics and KPIs
    • Project management
    • Principles of target markets and customer segments
