JOB PROFILE:

Under the direction of the Housekeeping Supervisor, the Housekeeping/Laundry Aide is responsible for cleaning the facility and laundering the residents and facility belongings; ensuring all safety and other requirements are maintained, including Manitoba Health Standards; and Lions Housing Centres standards are met including:

  • Working within the framework of the Lions Housing Centres Mission, Vision and Values, and in accordance with its policies and procedures.
  • Respecting Residents Rights at all times.

Responsibilities and duties:

1) Housekeeping

  • Performs daily cleaning duties throughout the facility and performs specialized cleaning duties facilitate Resident admissions and transfers or similar occurrences according to established routines and procedures.
  • Performs cleaning duties for specialized equipment and areas, such as but not limited to resident suite, kitchenette, dining, recreation and hallway floors.
  • Empties and washes waste receptacles. Garbage disposal from resident's suite and other assigned areas.
  • Garbage disposals both internally and externally including recycling.
  • Reports concerns to the Housekeeping Supervisor related to the facility such as general safety, faulty mechanical equipment, electrical, structural or any other related concerns which are discovered during the course of daily duties.
  • Participates in Fire Safety Programs and other educational, training and activity programs as assigned.
  • Maintains janitorial closets, cleaning carts and all housekeeping equipment in a clean, safe and organized manner.
  • Shifts may be adjusted with suitable notice, in order to facilitate work on special projects, routines or occasions.
  • Required to move furniture to facilitate proper cleaning.
  • Required to wash interior and exterior windows as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

2) Laundry

  • Required to perform daily laundry duties in the facility which include but are not limited to: collecting, weighing, recording, sorting, delivering, washing, drying, folding, hanging up, of linens and resident clothing according to established routines and procedures and minor repairs applicable only to company property.
  • Required to operate commercial washers and dryers.
  • Required to apply clothing labels to Resident clothing using a heat seal machine.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

3) Other

  • The Housekeeper/ Laundry Aide is knowledgeable regarding the safe use of and maintenance of cleaning carts, vacuums, floor polishers/burnisher, carpet cleaner, auto scrubber, mop systems, window washing wands, washers, dryers, heat sealer (clothing labeling) and other related equipment for both housekeeping and laundry purposes.
  • Provides regular communication with the Housekeeping Supervisor and co-workers as it relates to daily departmental activities, projects and long-term goals of the Department.
  • Demonstrates respect for co-workers, Residents, their family members/ visitors and belongings required at all times.

Professionalism:

  • Maintains confidentiality in all matters pertaining to residents, staff, and facility operations.

  • Practices in a manner that supports the Respectful Workplace Policy.

  • Participates in mandatory annual education.

  • Work collaboratively with all staff as required.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum 1 year housekeeping and laundry experience in a Long-Term Care, Supportive Housing and Independent Living setting; or commercial cleaning experience is preferred.

  • Knowledge of WHMIS applicable to Housekeeping/ Laundry.

  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, twist, lift and reach continuously throughout the entire shift. Ability to lift approximately 50 Ibs.

  • Effective problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the safe operation of cleaning equipment used at Lions Housing Centres preferred

  • Good organizational skills, with ability to adapt to changing needs and requirements.

  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English is required.

  • Good physical and mental health to meet the requirements of the position, including the ability to climb ladders

  • Able to carry out duties in a professional manner, working under minimum or no supervision, and in compliance with confidentiality requirements of Lions Housing Centres and its Residents

  • Presents a courteous, cooperative and professional manner to both Residents and Staff while performing duties.

  • Must maintain a clean, neat appearance, in accordance with Lions Housing Centres Inc. dress code.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
