Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE:

The Residential Care Worker provides a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors

Characteristic Job Duties:

The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristics:

· Monitors the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and morale support; may include safe storage and recording of prescribed medications

· Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reports

· Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (IE: Welfare, police, urgent situations)

· Coordinates client care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in taking random urinalysis, as well as breathalyzer tests with clients, doing bed checks, ensures adherence to check in times and curfews

· May carry out inspection/security checks of property and grounds in accordance with policies and procedures

· Handles the admission, orientation and evaluation of clients' understanding of rules, ensures ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline

· May handle finances relating to room rentals and meal tickets, receipting of same

· May serve as reception for shelter

· May prepare or provide simple meals for clients/residents

· Performs other duties as assigned

Note: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties

MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:

The successful job applicant will have completed high school, plus specialized courses of up to six months (Addictions facilities.)

Note: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable

SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:

More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including experience with frontline work in a social services setting

PHYSICAL EFFORT REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires moderate amounts of keyboarding, and performing walk abouts

CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, monitoring security cameras and attentiveness when interacting with clients and recording information

RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL RESOURCES:

The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly or on a relief basis or has responsibility for the wise us of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.

HUMAN RESOURCES:

The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees, volunteers and or students

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

· Dealing with angry people

· Abusive People

· Verbal abuse

· Isolation

· Work schedule affecting lifestyle

· The incumbent may have little to no travel required

· The incumbent carries a pager/walkie talkie and will work shifts

Exposures to Hazards:

The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to:

· Physical attacks by others

· Exposure to infectious diseases

· Exposure to bodily fluids

· Sharp objects

· Other dangerous situations

The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

  • Universal precautions

  • Immunization for Hepatitis B

  • Vaccination against Tuberculosis

  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR

  • Criminal Police Record Check

  • Non-violent crisis intervention training

  • WHMIS Training

  • Adult Abuse Registry Check

  • Child Abuse Registry Check

  • Driver's Abstract

  • Use of protective gloves

  • Use of protective masks (as needed)

Job Type: Casual on Call

The target hiring range for this position is $16.25 with a maximum of $16.66

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.

Additional pay:

  • Overtime pay

Flexible language requirement:

  • French not required

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift (Shifts range from 730am to 330pm / 330pm to 1130pm / 1130pm to 730am)

  • On call (called in to fill shifts when regular employees are unable to work)

Experience:

  • supportive care: 1 year (preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Adult Abuse Check

  • Current Police Record Check

  • Vulnerable persons Check

  • Child Abuse Check

Work Location: In person

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $16.25 to $16.25 with a maximum of $16.25.
