Description

The Housekeeper/Maintenance Worker is responsible for keeping all buildings in a clean, tidy and sanitary manner following established cleaning procedures as well as any maintenance work as directed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for general cleaning daily.
  • Clean and disinfect all hygiene areas, including washrooms, basins, toilet bowls, bathtubs, and urinals; restock all washroom supplies as required.
  • Empty all waste baskets and garbage receptacles.
  • Clean cottages following check-out of guests, including laundering linens and towels.
  • Ensure the cottages are fully equipped prior to the arrival of guests, and throughout as required.
  • Sweep and mop program spaces daily; clean all public bathrooms daily and maintain the supply of paper products and soap.
  • Ensure tidiness and cleanliness of janitorial supplies area.
  • Maintain cleaning supplies inventory and advise supervisor when new supplies are required
  • Ensure mops are sanitized on a regular basis.
  • Maintenance - related tasks:
    • Basic gardening as required
    • Ensure the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, picking up litter, keeping walkways clear of debris, raking.
    • Painting/Staining of internal and external amenities as required.
    • Checking doors and windows to ensure building security.
    • Report situations requiring maintenance to Maintenance Coordinator
  • Other related duties as required

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift/move on a regular basis up to 29 lbs.
  • This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for long periods of time.

Employment Terms: Seasonal; flexible hours mid-April-June and mid-August to official camp closing; 40 hours per week July to mid-August.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • High School Graduate
  • WHIMIS
  • An original copy of current driver's abstract for review and verification that it is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Alternative combinations and experience may be considered.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Aware of safe handling and storage of cleaning products.
  • Knowledge about cleaning and sanitization.
  • Experience with basic gardening, painting and staining.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Obtain a Criminal Record check with vulnerable sector screening through the local police department
  • Be willing to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e. The Salvation Army Abuse Registry)
  • Willingness to comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.
  • Able to take responsibility of personal health and safety in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
