Work involves cooking balanced meals as per the menu, which follows the Canadian Food Guide standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the safe handling and cooking of food as per the Canadian Food safe guidelines.
Responsible for keeping the kitchen, dining area, pantries and food storage in a clean and sanitary condition, according to established standards and regulations.
Ensure that standard sanitation practices are followed by all staff members or clients who enter the kitchen.
Prepare a variety of foods as stated on the menu and prepare a variety of desserts in a timely manner for a population of 30-40 people on a regular basis and other functions (such as community partner functions, former resident days, Christmas parties, etc.) as requested by management.
Responsible to practice portion control at each meal so as to minimize waste.
Responsible to inspect food upon arrival to ensure quality and quantity.
Responsible to inspect supplies upon arrival, equipment and work areas to ensure conformity to established standards.
Other duties as assigned by the Administrative Staff which are deemed necessary for the smooth operation of the Kitchen and Food Storage areas
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Diploma or certificate from a cooking program or equivalent experience
Minimum of 1-year experience cooking for groups
Knowledge of food handling and safety methods required
Valid CPR/First Aid certificate
Strong service ethic and friendly disposition
Suitable to work with disadvantaged and challenging individuals
Provide a record of a recent Criminal History check
