SMS Equipment is looking for a Service Supervisor to lead the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of our GKP shop facilities and service support activities. In this role, you will be instrumental in driving operational excellence and contributing to the ongoing success of our team and customer satisfaction. You will oversee the maintenance and repair of Komatsu and OEM equipment, ensuring optimal use of workforce and resources. You will be responsible for assigning work, guiding skilled trades professionals, and providing on going support in repair procedures and techniques.

The shift rotation for this position is 7x7 or 14x14. Housing is available.

The salary range for this position is $133,250.00 per year, with additional premiums available. This position is also eligible for a short-term incentive plan.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Shop Operations & Service Management - Oversee shop facilities and service operations by supervising, coordinating, and scheduling tradespeople responsible for repairing and maintaining Komatsu and other OEM equipment. Coordinate work with welders and subcontractors to ensure smooth operations. Maintain quality standards through in-process inspections and evaluations of completed work. Support team development by providing coaching and guidance to ensure work standards and job expectations are met. Prepare and review SMS and Komatsu technical reports, requests, and Quality Assurance Documents. Manage service quotes for internal and external customers while ensuring accurate documentation of work orders and supporting information.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities - Ensure compliance with SMS Equipment policies, safety regulations, and industry standards while maintaining a clean, organized work environment. Promote a strong safety culture and provide training to support employee development. Manage schedules, allocate team resources effectively, and oversee department rotations to foster employee growth. Assist with incident reports, conduct evaluations, and directly assist tradespeople and Lead Hands to ensure smooth daily operations. Conduct random audits to ensure OHSE processes function properly and implement corrective actions. Support the Mine JOSH Committee and help resolve unresolved issues by escalating them as needed. Actively participate in all safety programs to promote a culture of safety

  • Customer Service - Assist customers by providing service information, resolving issues, and offering solutions. Prepare reports and quotations as needed. Collaborate with field dispatch to prioritize service tasks and organize field repair parts, including PM services and Komatsu Care Programs. Coordinate mandatory Komatsu Field Campaigns in the shop and on-site. Serve as backup to the Service Manager with customer concerns.

  • Work Order & Inventory Management - Manage all work orders and ensure inventory aligns with large orders. Handle material shipping documentation and ensure FLRA cards and timecards are reviewed and signed off. Oversee pre-job assessments, post-repair inspections, and ordering supplies and parts. Prepare warranty work orders with complete documentation.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a ticketed Heavy Equipment Technician. Additional qualifications include:

  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations, protocols, and best practices.
  • Proficient in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Strong technical aptitude, with the ability to understand and execute complex tasks.
  • Customer-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering exceptional service.
  • In-depth knowledge of maintenance and repair of Komatsu and other OEM equipment
  • Leadership experience in an industrial environment is essential.
  • Proven ability to oversee and coordinate large shop operations.
  • Proven organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Knowledge of OH&S acts, regulations, and equipment inspection requirements is required.
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset.
