Aramark Canada is currently seeking a number of Cooks to join the team at Dalhousie University! Reporting to the Residence Dining Manager or their designate, the Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking and serving a variety of foods in accordance with the menu.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assures quality, courteous customer service is provided to all customers
  • Prep and cooks required items in accordance with menu, using grill, ovens, and fryers
  • Prep and cook made to order items
  • Determine production requirements and identify and incorporate substitute ingredients
  • Receive products
  • Select, prepare, and modifies food to meet dietary requirements
  • Prepare soups including selecting and processing ingredients, cooking and finishing soups
  • Prepares thickening and binding agents
  • Prepares sauces
  • Prepares meats and variety meats including selecting, processing, cooking, and finishing meats and variety meats
  • Select, process, cook, and finish finned fishes
  • Prepares savory and sweet pastries and pies
  • Maintains continual cleaning and sanitizing of surrounding work area
  • Assists with culinary auditing, temperature checking of food items within kitchen, stations, fridges and freezers
  • Adherence to Aramark's policies and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety and Food Safety
  • Provide support and guidance to Food Service Workers with regards to culinary technique and best practice
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Ability to execute all duties under Food Service Worker and Cook 2 classification
  • 3+ years prep cook, grill cook, line cook experience
  • Leadership experience considered an asset
  • Working toward Red Seal considered an asset
  • Valid WHMIS, Food Safe Advanced Certification, First Aid Certification considered an asset
  • Must be able to work effectively and efficiently, supervised and unsupervised
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull min. 35 lbs
  • Must be flexible, evening and weekend work may be required
