About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Recreation Therapist is a member of the collaborative health care team, providing support to patients, families and inter-professional team members through therapeutic intervention to support holistic functioning of patients. The recreation therapist provides assessment, intervention plan development, evidence-informed interventions and evaluation of recreation therapy services. Interventions are provided to groups or individuals in an acute inpatient setting, related to the patient's overall plan of care. The recreation therapist is responsible to oversee the delivery of the overall recreation therapy service for a program or team.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Recreation or Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification
  • 2 years working as a Recreation Therapist in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Knowledge and application of Therapeutic Recreation APIED process
  • Comprehensive Program Planning - organizing service delivery.
  • Risk management strategies and application for the population and service.
  • Knowledge and experience working with patients in an acute hospital setting
  • Knowledge and experience of the continuum of care including transitions from hospital to long term care
  • Understand roles of the recreation associate and therapeutic assistant
  • Ability to work in a high pace acute medical care environment
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and written
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Permanent, Part-Time position; 37.5 hours biweekly

Compensation and Benefits

$33.27 - $42.01 Hourly
