Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Manager, Security, this position is responsible for monitoring the day-to-day activities of security operations at the site level. Provides input on performance evaluations. Assists with the implementation of all new security operations initiatives. Ensures adherence to the Company's policies and procedures, motivates and leads by example and supports Great Canadian's learning environment while establishing a safe and welcoming work environment for all team members. Above all else, must embrace and be aligned with Casino Nova Scotia's culture and philosophy of providing outstanding entertainment experiences.

Key Accountabilities

  • Schedules and supervises Security Officers on shift; verifies time and attendance; assigns shift work assignments directly and ensures appropriate coverage
  • Operates the Security Operations Center. Duties include parking control, issuing property passes, point of contact for guests and other departments, etc.
  • Mentors, coaches and trains and communicates with Security Officers; may be required to facilitate specific modules of formal training (e.g., sections of Officer training classes, first aid, General Orientation)
  • Assists with the screening and selection of new Security Officer hires in the absence of the Shift Manager or Manager.
  • Provides input to the Security Manager on Security Officer performance objectives and evaluations
  • May prepare time/attendance payroll data and submit to the Security Manager for approval
  • Monitors, documents and prepares statements/reports on internal and external violations, unsafe conditions, potential hazards, suspicious persons and activities
  • Enrolls guests into the Self-Exclusion Program
  • Conducts regular patrols of the entire property as directed by the Security Manager; identifies risks and conditions that present safety issues
  • Provides or assists with First Aid for employees and guests
  • Responds to, resolves or escalates security issues and incidents
  • May escort guests, employees and vendors as assigned by the Security Manager
  • Oversees crowd control for special events as assigned by the Security Manager
  • May administer other property security systems including the parking system and employee photo ID badge and biometric security access system.
  • May compile various daily and monthly reports for the Security Manager including guest count reports and weekly incident summary report
  • Ensures compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed

Education and Qualifications

  • Relevant Post Secondary education or suitable combination of education and experience required
  • Minimum 2 years security experience required (in a gaming environment preferred); surveillance experience an asset
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience preferred
  • Must be willing to recertify every 3 years for Use of Force (training provided)
  • Occupational First Aid level 2 an asset
  • Ability to successfully obtain a Gaming License
  • Can understand, speak and write English; fluency in other languages an asset
  • Computer literacy in MS Office
  • Liquor Service Certification an asset (e.g., Serve Right)
