Job Purpose:

Under the supervision and direction of the Head Housekeeper, the Lead Hand coordinates, trains, and leads Housekeeping and Commissary staff by delegating and overseeing the tasks necessary for providing clean and safe living accommodations for our guests. The Lead Hand Housekeeper will act as an intermediary between the staff and Head Housekeeper through planning, organizing, development and direction through identifying a need for safety training, completing safety and hazard assessments, and participating in safety investigations. Lead hands are responsible for their team's ability to meet productivity goals assigned by the Head Housekeeper. They assist employees experiencing work-related issues.

Duties:

Industrial Relations/Safety Requirements

  • Must be fully knowledgeable in the safe and efficient operation of all equipment in the Laundry, Housekeeping and Janitorial areas of operations, and ensure that all employees are trained in the proper use of all equipment.
  • Must have a complete understanding of the proper use of all cleaning chemicals in the Laundry and Housekeeping areas and understand the safety precautions necessary while using these products.
  • Must have a complete understanding of WHMIS, the Hazard Identification Program, and Det'on Cho Bouwa Whee Catering LP.'s Health and Safety Program, apply this knowledge in day-to-day work, and ensure that all members of the Housekeeping team follow safe work practices at all times.
  • Must use required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment) where necessary. All employees must be in possession of CSA Approved Safety Footwear. Det'on Cho Bouwa Whee Catering LP. will provide certain P.P.E. which must be worn as instructed in all areas and environments where required (such as safety goggles and rubber gloves). All employees have the right and the duty to refuse and not participate in any unsafe work.
  • Create and maintain an effective department safety team.
  • Ensure that Housekeeping staff follows established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies at all times.
  • Oversee regularly scheduled Safety, Toolbox, PASS and department organizational meetings, and provide valuable input to the Det'on Cho Bouwa Whee Catering LP. Housekeeping team, to ensure the smooth operation of the Housekeeping Department.
  • Properly maintain all housekeeping areas as needed, and oversee the training, care and use of supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinate repair needs with the Camp Administration Clerk.

Human Resource / Management

  • Effectively direct the Housekeeping/commissary team in a clear, direct, and professional manner
  • Assist the Head Housekeeper when creating and developing policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate safe work practices in job performance reviews.
  • Communicate with Head Housekeeper to ensure sufficient planning for housekeeping services and activities are adequate.
  • Coordinate and monitor resident moves and respond to resident requests promptly and according to policy.
  • Stay current with new operating methods and incorporate them into existing Housekeeping practices as necessary.
  • Attend all required meetings, providing input and recommendations as needed.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities for personal growth and development.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining effective communication between all departments and our guests, in order to provide the best service possible.
  • Must be fully capable and willing to fill in for any position within the housekeeping department.
  • Be ready willing and able to fulfill all reasonable related duties requested of the Head Housekeeper and our client.
  • Maintain supervisory confidentiality and prohibit workplace gossip.
  • Through a co-operative and positive attitude, be an active team member and leader that works effectively with all Det'on Cho Bouwa Whee Catering LP. team members.
  • Supervise up to 15 employees in the areas of Housekeeping and Commissary and report all issues to the Head Housekeeper.

Administration / Reporting

  • Prepare daily progress report, which must clearly cover all incidents, concerns, and communicate any changes in staff allocation or duties.
  • Prepare crossover report for cross shift so that a consistent supervision of staff is maintained, and there is no change in service for our guests due to a lack of communication.
  • Assist the Head Housekeeper on completing a timely and accurate inventory of all housekeeping consumables monthly.
  • Set up and maintain a log of all housekeeping equipment, which will be used to record all regularly scheduled maintenance and repairs to equipment, and ensure equipment is kept in the best operating condition.
  • Perform weekly audits as requested by the Head Housekeeper, according to the procedures set by Det'on Cho Bouwa Whee Catering LP.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must have 1-3 years related supervisory experience in the Housekeeping and/or Janitorial fields.
  • Must have current First Aid, WHMIS, and WSCC Mine Supervisor Level 1 certificates and keep them updated regularly.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office software an asset.
  • Supervisory skills and ability to lead a diverse, multicultural team.
  • Strong communication and customer relations abilities required.
