Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Head Coach, Competitive Programs the Assistant Head Coach is responsible for supporting the development of MHRC program and training plans, racing/event schedule, and the delivery and supervision of competitive ski racing programs offered in partnership between the Glen Eden Snow School and MHRC.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Provide supervision and leadership for MHRC coaching staff and volunteers in support of the Head Coach.
  • Promote high quality coaching by providing regular feedback and contributing to performance reviews.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of program plans and training calendar with a strong focus on safety, and lifelong sport participation.
  • Ensure appropriate risk management policies for racing programs are adhered to, in collaboration with appropriate staff.
  • Assist with pre-season dryland activities and on-hill supervision, training, mentoring and coaching for competitive programs.
  • Contribute to cultivating the culture and community of the club.
  • Assist staff in creating a clear and open lines of communication with program participants (and parents).
  • Serve as the primary senior staff member on site at key times in the Head coach's absence. In lieu of the Head Coach, the Assistant will make on site decisions regarding program and event delivery to ensure high quality experiences and events in all programs.
  • Assist with recruitment, training, and development of coaching staff in accordance with Conservation Halton employee policies and Alpine Canada/Alpine Ontario coach training requirements.
  • Support with administrative duties including staff scheduling, payroll, budget management and participant reporting for racing programs.
  • Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton's Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Coordinator, Recreation Programs.

Your Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-3 years competitive coaching experience within a club/feeder program environment, ideally within Alpine Ontario.
  • Minimum 2 years demonstrated supervisory experience within a snow school or racing setting
  • Working knowledge of Alpine Ontario, Alpine Canada and FIS organizations and requirements
  • Designation in ski coaching (i.e., Alpine Canada, Canadian Ski Coaches Federation, National Coaching Certification Program); Minimum Level II Official with AOA (or willing to obtain)
  • Preferred designation: CSIA Level 2 instructor and/or Development Level (DL) Certified Alpine Canada coach in good standing
  • Working knowledge of current coaching methodologies, racing club operational considerations, and risk management methods is required
  • Experience using Snow Stars development model to benchmark athlete skill development, competency assessment and progression opportunities
  • Understanding of International and Provincial Competitive Rules governing alpine ski racing, Safe Sport requirements for sports programs that ensure safe, supportive and inclusive training and competitive environments
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills; Able to develop, promote and maintain high levels of customer service while maintaining effective communication
  • Ability to adapt to the daily challenges associated with the operation of a competitive ski racing program
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, Dayforce, Outlook)
  • Successful candidates must provide own alpine ski equipment; including skis, poles, boots & helmet.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
  • Successful candidates are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS), to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (if over 18 years old). *Cost covered by Conservation Halton up to $30.00
  • A valid Ontario Drivers Licence, minimum Class "G", with a satisfactory Driver's Abstract is required. *Abstract completed by Conservation Halton
  • Successful candidates will be required to have Standard First Aid and CPR certification prior to first day of employment
