Your Opportunity

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Lead lessons and programs for riders that develop rider confidence on the Conservation Halton trail network
  • Provide lesson/program experiences that focus on safe use of trails and skill development in riders of all ages and abilities
  • Support various Mountain Bike Programs and the Kelso Bike Race Series
  • Act as an ambassador for Conservation Halton; reporting on trail use, conditions, and safety
  • Assist with trail maintenance & development where required
  • Maintain a suitable bike for personal use while teaching and guiding. This includes:
    • Ensuring the bike is safe for use
    • Ensuring the bike is a professional representation of your abilities and certification
    • Wearing and maintaining proper uniform, PPE, and equipment as described in the staff handbook
  • Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton's Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals.
  • Other duties as assigned

Your Qualifications

  • Strong creativity, leadership, and collaboration skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer service mindset and the ability to enforce policies and procedures in a professional manner
  • Education, training, or certification in sport, recreation, or education is an asset
  • Previous experience in a position providing instruction or guiding is an asset
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, on varied terrain.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
  • Successful candidates are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS), to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (if over 18 years old). *Cost covered by Conservation Halton up to $30.00.
  • Successful candidates must complete and/or provide a copy of Level 1 Instructor Certification with PMBI prior to first day of employment (Visit http://www.pmbia.org/ for details)
  • Successful candidates must provide own:
    • Modern Mountain Bike in good working order
    • Helmet
    • Gloves/Footwear
  • CH parks are not accessible by public transit; candidates should ensure they have reliable transportation.
