The Disability Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the administration of employee absence policies and procedures. This role involves tracking employee leaves, invoice administration, updating records, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and company policies. Key responsibilities include processing leave requests, maintaining accurate records, completing billings, providing support and guidance to employees regarding leave policies, and assisting with the coordination of return-to-work plans. The goal is to support the team by ensuring accurate leave management and helping to address basic employee inquiries.

  • Support the third-party adjudication and internal administration of Short Term Disability (STD) claims made through a self-insured plan.

  • Case management for non-occupational and occupational illness and injuries, including liaising with appropriate business partners, employees, third party adjudicators, managers and union representatives where appropriate to coordinate application for leave, return-to-work and modified duties. Provide information to the ill/injured employee and their manager on the return-to-work process as well as educating both of the workplace parties on their rights and obligations.

  • Maintain a high level of support for employees through frequent communication with the employee, their managers, the appropriate business partner and third-party adjudicators in development of goals and objectives compatible to the employee's disability, monitoring the progress of the employee, communicating, and collaborating with managers, business partners and union representatives.

  • Provide support for disability and rehabilitation case management services for medical accommodation requests, Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) claims, Short Term Sick Leave Disability claims, and Long-Term disability return to work cases.

  • Organize and maintains appropriate records and provides costing information as required. Prepares reports, correspondence and other documents as required.

  • Documents case activity and decisions within the electronic case management system in a timely, accurate, and confidential manner.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Disability Management, Human Resources, or related field

Skills:

  • Ability to provide exceptional employee support when dealing with very sensitive situations

  • The ability to maintain, in strictest confidence, information received concerning confidential matters such as medical, labour relations, legal issues, staffing and recruiting, performance management and any other information deemed to be of a confidential nature.

  • Competencies include interpersonal and communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, understanding of benefits landscape and relevant employment legislation.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with superior attention to detail and accuracy.

  • The ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in developing and maintaining positive relationships with employees, unions and third-party providers

  • Basic skill level of Microsoft Office suite, Human Resources Information Systems, and Case Management systems.

  • Knowledge of employment legislation, collective agreements, human rights legislation and information and privacy acts.

EXPERIENCE:

One to two years' recent related work experience in disability case management or sick leave programs in a professional environment.
