The Janitor position maintains the cleanliness of the facility, property and grounds in compliance with applicable standards and provides access to the facility as required.

This is a 3 month fixed term position at 9 hours per week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, salting and sanding as required and summer grass removal.
  • Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning floors, vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning mopping, washrooms, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage and recycling.
  • Safely stores, cleans, and maintains all related equipment and supplies in the storage spaces provided.
  • Informs supervisor of general repairs and maintenance items required.
  • Attends mandatory training and specialized work training when scheduled.
  • Attends meetings as requested by the supervisor.
  • Follows established work routines, to ensure all areas of housekeeping are addressed
  • Checks, cleans, moves, arranges, and dusts furniture as required.
  • Restocks washroom supplies and distributes received material as required.
  • Uses appropriate sanitizing products, to keep healthy environment.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of some High School.
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • At least 3 months of related experience including life skills, general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Must be physically able to stand and/or walk.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs, push, and pull various items such as custodial equipment, furniture, and other items.
  • Able to operate cleaning equipment and tools.
  • Moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment.
  • Self-directed and able to take initiative and communicate and work well with people.
