The Janitor position maintains the cleanliness of the facility, property and grounds in compliance with applicable standards and provides access to the facility as required.
This is a 3 month fixed term position at 9 hours per week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, salting and sanding as required and summer grass removal.
- Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning floors, vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning mopping, washrooms, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage and recycling.
- Safely stores, cleans, and maintains all related equipment and supplies in the storage spaces provided.
- Informs supervisor of general repairs and maintenance items required.
- Attends mandatory training and specialized work training when scheduled.
- Attends meetings as requested by the supervisor.
- Follows established work routines, to ensure all areas of housekeeping are addressed
- Checks, cleans, moves, arranges, and dusts furniture as required.
- Restocks washroom supplies and distributes received material as required.
- Uses appropriate sanitizing products, to keep healthy environment.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of some High School.
- Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- At least 3 months of related experience including life skills, general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Must be physically able to stand and/or walk.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs, push, and pull various items such as custodial equipment, furniture, and other items.
- Able to operate cleaning equipment and tools.
- Moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment.
- Self-directed and able to take initiative and communicate and work well with people.
