Description

The Dishwasher is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen, dining room and storage areas, including washing all dishes/pots/pans (etc.) - according to Public Health Standards. They spend time loading and unloading dishes from dish machines, washing all pans or utensils that come into contact with food, and scraping identifiers off everything.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilities

  • Clean all dishes, cutlery, cooking utensils, pots and pans, in accordance with Public Health standards.
  • Perform cleaning duties in the dining room areas after each meal.
  • Inform supervisor when additional supplies are required.
  • Dishwasher on late shift must ensure that doors are locked, and all electrical appliances and lights are turned off at end of shift.
  • Kitchen keys are to be returned to Front Desk at the end of the shift and signed back in.
  • Ensure kitchen floor and dishwashing area are cleaned as per policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the washing and putting away of all dishes, utensils, pots, pans, etc.
  • Assist in all areas of clean up as required (daily/weekly/monthly checklist provided).
  • Sweeping and mopping floors, especially in the event that items are broken or spilled; immediately wipes up any spills on the floor/counters and follow sanitation and cleaning procedures.
  • Wash, stack, sort, and store dishes, glassware, utensils, and cookware.
  • Maintain a clean kitchen and keeps dish area organized and free of clutter; maintain clean, dry floors throughout the shift.
  • Sets up dish stations, including dishwashing machines and sinks.
  • Clean and sanitize storage areas, including freezers and refrigerators.
  • Monitor trash cans throughout shift, making sure to removes full trashcans and boxes as needed and at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of dry storage areas and the organization of storage shelves; assist in storing of food deliveries.
  • Ensure that the dishwasher is in working order and reports problems as they arise.
  • Assist with closing, including aiding in the sanitation of cooking and food preparation stations.
  • Ensuring the availability of clean dishes by bussing tables, washing dishes, pots, pans, and flatware, and resetting dining areas.
  • Prepare dining areas and kitchen for next shift by cleaning and restocking dining areas and cook stations.
  • Clean machines and appliances used in the kitchen, such as coffee makers, pots, and pans, mixers, stoves and ovens etc.

Health and Safety

  • Responsible to ensure that health, safety and hygiene standards are met as per facility requirements; hazard reports are prepared and submitted to the supervisor.
  • Report to the supervisor new equipment that is required or broken equipment, which needs to be repaired or replaced.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as required.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 35 hours weekly.
  • Ability to lift/move on a regular basis up to 25 pounds.
  • This job requires walking, carrying, sitting, reaching, bending, twisting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching frequently and working in a standing position for long periods of time.

Normal hours of work - hours and work schedule will vary as operational requirements and follows a work rotation schedule and will include days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completed grade 10.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Hospitality industry, especially kitchen experience is an asset.
  • Ability to operate an industrial dishwasher
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards.

Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
