Description

The Houskeeper is primarily responsible for taking care of cleaning tasks, replenishing supplies and cleaning and storing housekeeping equipment for The Salvation Army Jackson's Point Conference Centre in compliance with health and safety requirements. They ensure tidy and sanitary amenities to guests. Their duties include cleaning floors, glass, and mirrors, making beds, and dusting surfaces throughout the conference center. The incumbent is a professional with integrity and attention to detail who will provide the highest level of guest satisfaction in cleanliness and service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilities

  • Perform a variety of cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, dusting and polishing
  • Ensure that all rooms are cared for and inspected according to standards.
  • Clean, disinfect and polish bathroom fixtures and appliances.
  • Clean and disinfect public areas such as changing rooms, showers and elevators.
  • Ensure all rooms are cared for and inspected according to standards.
  • Notify supervisor on any damages, deficits and disturbances.
  • Responsible for picking up debris and emptying trash containers and recycling are ready for pick-up.
  • Ensure that supplies are received, stored, and distributed as required; notify supervisor when additional supplies are required.
  • Ensure that each room has an adequate supply of linens
  • Be familiar with Fire Safety Plan and emergency procedures.
  • Follow WHMIS guidelines for use and storage of chemicals used for cleaning and maintain records for housekeeping.
  • Ensure that the maintenance log is accurate, up-to-date and completed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate the housekeeping schedule under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Deal with reasonable complaints/requests with professionalism and patience.
  • Check stocking levels of all consumables and replace when appropriate.

Health and Safety

  • Responsible to ensure that health, safety and hygiene standards are met as per facility requirements; hazard reports are prepared and submitted to the supervisor.
  • Report to the supervisor new equipment that is required or broken equipment, which needs to be repaired or replaced.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as required.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 35 hours weekly.
  • Ability to lift/move on a regular basis up to 35 pounds (15.8757 kgs.)
  • This job requires walking, carrying, sitting, reaching, bending, twisting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching frequently and working in a standing position for long periods of time.

Normal hours of work - hours and work schedule will vary as operational requirements and follows a work rotation schedule and will include days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Secondary school Diploma.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience as a cleaner or housekeeper in a professional cleaning role.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards.

Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
