Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Aquatics, the Assistant Supervisor, Recreation Programs Aquatics, is responsible for the development of the master scheduling of aquatic programs. This position is the point of contact and liaison for aquatic programs participants, rentals, and volunteer groups. The Assistant Supervisor, Aquatics, provides support and recommendations to the Supervisor on administrative, customer services improvements and supports aquatic staff teams in the delivery of services.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with the supervision of part time, full time, and student employees; provide training, on-call support and develop staffing schedules

Ensure a safe aquatic environment for the public and staff in accordance with applicable regulations, guidelines, policies, and procedures

Perform work in accordance with the provisions on the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety

Assist with Recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of student aquatic employees

Conducts regular staff training sessions to ensure policies and procedures are communicated effectively, quality standards and records are maintained, staff are prepared for emergency response, and rescue skills are retained

Helps ensure that all aquatic part-time staff have the required qualifications. Maintains the tracking system for staff qualifications

Supports bookings and preparing master program schedule

Act as liaison for aquatic events meet with representatives from various rental groups

Propose, establish, and operate comprehensive Aquatic Programs and special events in cooperation with the facility team

Provide timely and effective resolution of customer complaints that meets the customers' expectations using solid judgment, decision making and effective communication skills

Lead on preparation and updating the website and marketing materials

Assists with the preparation and updating of programming content in "XplorRecreation"

Provide direction and information to Customer Experience division on all aspects of Aquatic Programs.

Provide leadership to outdoor pool or satellite operations

Monitor, prepare and approve part-time payroll and provide reports as needed

Participate as part of the building supervisory team and assist in the general supervision of the building, programs, and staff

Qualifications, Competencies

2 year post-secondary in business administration, recreation studies or equivalent

Two (2) years' experience working in an administration and recreation environment, predominately in software programs; including experience with scheduling and liaising with community groups, facilitating user group meetings and with sporting events

Required Certifications include:
o Standard First Aid/CPR-C from one of the following agencies: Lifesaving Society, Red Cross, St. John Ambulance or Canadian Ski Patrol
o National Lifeguard Award
o Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor and Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor certifications

Preferred Certifications include:
o Aquatic Supervisory Training or Aquatic Management Training
o NL Instructor, and Lifesaving Society First Aid Instructor, Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer, Bronze Cross Examiner and Lifesaving Society Advanced Instructor certifications
o Professional accreditation and or training in aquatic fitness and aquatic post rehabilitation, older adult programming or related services, development, and delivery of general recreation programming
o Certified Pool Operator
o Aquatic Safety Inspector

Proficient computer skills in MS Word, Excel and Outlook and recreation management software such as Perfect Mind

Knowledge of municipal policies/procedures/by-laws and applicable provincial/federal legislation and regulations

Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines


Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Valid class "G" Ontario driver's license, and access to vehicle

Required to obtain and maintain satisfactory criminal record check

Schedule includes days, evenings and weekends; hours must be flexible to accommodate program requirements
