Job Summary

  • Obtain daily production schedule and preparation requirements from the Chef

  • Set up items for purchase on daily basis.

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of various food items

  • Wash, peel, cut and shred fruits and vegetables and fruits

  • Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.

  • Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees etc.

  • Perform other kitchen duties as assigned

  • Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible

  • Serve meals or prepare for delivery by using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring that food is at the correct temperature and is attractive and tasty. Tastes all prepared

  • Serve customers in a friendly, efficient manner following outlined steps of service.

  • Resolve customer concerns and relays relevant information to supervisor.

  • Provide service in all retail areas, including cashiering and line serving

  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment as instructed

  • Assist in production planning, record keeping and reporting as required

  • Assist in the ordering and receiving of all food and supplies as required

  • Ensure all food and other items are stored properly

  • Keep refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat. Ensure food and supply items are stored per standards

  • Utilize approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control. Notify cooks if food temperatures are not within acceptable limits.

  • Assure compliance with all sanitation and safety requirements.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc

  • Maintain work area and equipment. Follow principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment

  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines

  • Clean kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Store or discard excess food in accordance with safe food-handling procedures

  • Report needed maintenance, faulty equipment, or accidents to the supervisor immediately

  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position

  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and effectively within an interdisciplinary team

  • A team player with effective communication skills

  • Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong time management and organizational skills to be able to manage heavy workload.

  • Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen

  • Experience in basic food preparation

  • Ability to operate cooking equipment and complete all other cooking tasks

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils

  • Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure

Job Summary

How you will make an impact:
You will be responsible for assisting in the preparation and cooking of various food items while maintaining food safety and sanitation standards in the preparation and kitchen areas.

As a Kitchen Helper, you will:

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of various food items
  • Help measure and mix ingredients according to recipes using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Bake, roast, broil and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods under guidance. Add seasoning to food during mixing or cooking under the instruction of others
  • Carve meat, portion food on serving plates, and add gravies, sauces and garnishes to fill orders as directed
  • Wash, peel, cut and shred fruits and vegetables and fruits
  • Butcher chicken, fish and shellfish as directed
  • Maintain work area and equipment. Follow principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment
  • Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas

About you:

  • Certificate from a recognized cooking school preferred
  • You must have a valid Food Handler Certificate or provincial equivalent
  • Ability to operate cooking equipment and complete all other cooking tasks
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Experience in basic food preparation
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
