The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is part of a century old tradition to contribute towards building strong communities by helping TSA to give hope to other. The Christmas Kettle Coordinator position is a short-term contract position. The successful candidate is responsible for oversight of several Christmas Kettle locations in a given geographical zone area. Zone locations include shopping malls, grocery stores and retail outlets. They organize, direct, and supervise the work performed by Christmas Kettle Campaign Workers. They will also ensure adequate staffing is met prior to and during each shift.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below:

  • Oversee the operations of the Christmas Kettle campaign.
  • Promote, coordinate, and oversee the activities of Christmas Kettle Campaign Worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Maintain accurate records of worker's/volunteer's information.
  • Orientation and performance management of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers.
  • Coordinate the schedule for kettle staff and/or volunteers and respond to emergency absences, etc.
  • Coordinate the delivery and pick-up of kettles to/from sites daily, ensuring the security of donations.
  • Coordinate replacement teams for standalone tip-taps.
  • May deliver and pick-up kettles in an emergency situation.
  • Host at a kettle as required ensuring necessary coverage for breaks, etc.
  • Ensure that kettle locations have adequate supplies of literature etc.
  • Record statistical data and prepare weekly time sheets as required.
  • Ensure all Kettle donations are delivered to secure location at shift completion.
  • Coordinate, train and communicate with counting teams throughout campaign.
  • Assist in counting kettle income as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor regarding day-to-day campaign challenges and operations
  • Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently.
  • Ensure timesheets and mileage reports are submitted accurately and timely (weekly basis).
  • Respond to questions/queries from potential donors regarding SA ministries and programs.
  • Prepare reports for Kettle Campaign Committee outlining campaign targets, 'to-date' results and other relevant information.
  • In conjunction with supervisor, manage campaign related social media.
  • In conjunction with supervisor, ensure information relating to available shifts and fund-raising updates are communicated via volunteer management system daily.

Perform other related duties as required.

Pre-Campaign:

  • Assist in the coordination of the Christmas Kettle Campaign launch.
  • Will participate in recruitment and training of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers, including connecting with schools, local businesses and community groups.
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites.

Post Campaign:

  • Organize retrieval of all equipment/supplies from various kettle locations.
  • Arrange volunteer/kettle location appreciation certificates for distribution.
  • Ensure all necessary tip-tap equipment is returned following instructions for TipTap.
  • Prepare an overall report on the campaign for submission to the supervisor.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Collect donations and petite cash and ensure donations are always kept secure.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a temporary position based on up to 44 hours a week from October 7, 2024 - January 3, 2025.
  • Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required, per operational requirements.
  • Work environment includes both office work as well as kettle site visits typically in malls/stores.
  • Standing for long periods may be required and exposure to cold weather.
  • Ability to lift/move 9 to 12 kgs (20 - 25 lbs.)
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
  • Local travel is associated with this position.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of high school.
  • Post-Secondary education in event planning, marketing and/or communications is an asset.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • A minimum of one year of related experience or working in event planning/fundraising/customer service.
  • Money handling experience is an asset.
  • Experience in office administration.
  • Knowledge of available resources in the community.
  • Experience with general office equipment with strong skills and experience using Microsoft programs (WORD); Outlook, and Excel.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, with personal vehicle and insurance. A current copy of driver's abstract may be required for driving program vehicle and must be review and verified that it is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Above average computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to maintain a website would be an asset.
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Have good organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism, above average communication skills, a positive and energetic attitude as well as strong desire to meet goals and commitments.
  • Ability to work well with volunteers; maintain and build positive relationships.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced office setting; attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong customer service skills; enjoy liaising and working with people of all ages and abilities.
  • Honest, courteous, and punctual; prepared to act in the best interest of employer.
  • Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
  • Attentive listening skills for supervision, coaching, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor, volunteer, and organizational information.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
