Contract period: temporary part time

Hours of work:

  • Shifts are Monday to Friday evenings and occasional daytime. As well as Saturday and Sunday days and evenings.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Supervisor/Coordinator of Facility Operations, This position assists with general and specialized maintenance throughout the property. Daily duties will support externally booked events and be responsible for maintaining and cleaning of a historic facility. This position is responsible for the security and safety of the facility and its patrons when no other full-time staff are available. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that the facility is opened and closed at the scheduled times.
  • Notifies Facility Supervisor or Facility Coordinator if other part-time staff are absent during their shift or if there are part-time Maintenance staff issues.
  • Performs general cleaning/maintenance (i.e. mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, window cleaning, washroom/dressing room cleaning, snow shoveling, garbage pickup, detail cleaning, setups and breakdowns of tables and chairs).
  • Operates power tools, and cleaning and safety equipment.
  • Responds to requests from patrons (general public) and other City of Markham staff on a general facility issues and or maintenance requests.
  • On occasions, give tour of the facility to public
  • Patrols the building looking for facility problems, safety hazards, or improper departmental operations.
  • Is responsible for the security of the building.
  • Ensures that all policies and procedures are being followed by patrons and other PT maintenance staff as applicable.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in part time facility maintenance and familiarity with associated materials, equipment operations and maintenance procedures are required.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of user groups, general public, and program participants in a courteous and efficient manner are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment as well as to work independently
  • Standard First Aid and CPR 'C' and AED certification
  • General maintenance skills are essential.
  • An acceptable Vulnerable Sector Screening letter will be a condition of employment.
