Job Location: Citywide

Hours of Work: Shifts available include Monday to Friday at 7 am to 9 pm; Saturday and Sunday at 7 am to 6 pm

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily fitness centre environment
  • The successful candidate will be required to work a flexible schedule that includes early mornings, evenings and weekends to align with needs of the clients.

Job Summary:
Reporting to Fitness Coordinator, this position is responsible for developing and maintaining a client base and by providing one-on-one comprehensive Fitness programs supporting clients to achieve their fitness goals. Personal Trainers will be responsible for providing a safe and pleasant environment for clients using City fitness facilities and outdoor City property.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build client base by demonstrating the value of personal training, including safe and proper exercise techniques
  • Willingness to conduct new member orientation sessions when required.
  • Design personal Fitness Programs based on the members needs and goals
  • Support and Promote all City of Markham Community Programs
  • Motivate and inspire clients to get results through goal setting, follow ups, and re-assessment
  • Scheduling of fitness reassessment or program review as needed for the client
  • Ensure the delivery of excellent customer service, exceeding the expectations of our members
  • Manages client communication in a timely and professional manner, adhering to best practices as determined by City of Markham policies and procedures.
  • Ensures qualifications and certifications as required by the City of Markham and regulatory standards are current at all times.
  • Actively participates in scheduled programs, meetings and special events.

Education & Qualifications:

  • CSEP (Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology Certification) or licensed Kinesiologist (College of Kinesiologists of Ontario) an asset
  • Possess a valid Personal Training Certification (CanFit Pro, ACSM, CPTN, NSCA or equivalent)
  • Minimum age of 16 years old at the start of employment
  • 2-year Community College diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion as asset
  • At least one year of experience in exercise prescriptions and appraisals
  • Standard First Aid with CPR C
  • Currently active in the field of fitness
  • Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures
