The Ministry of Education, Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf and Trillium Demonstration School requires experienced aquatic individuals to participate in the growth and development of students who are Deaf, hard of hearing and/or have severe learning disabilities, through an aquatics program.

About the job

In this role you will:

• Plan, organize and implement instructional, recreational and training programs designed to meet the needs of students and lifeguarding staff;
• Schedule staff to ensure safety;
• Maintain records;
• Organize competitive and recreational swimming programs and special community events;
• Implement school policies and to ensure the maintenance of aquatics equipment.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• National Lifeguard Society of Canada Lifeguard Certificate
• Current certification in First Aid and CPR
• Courses in Non Violent Crisis Intervention or equivalent.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Your background and experience enable you to meet the following requirements:
• Demonstrated experience working with students who are Deaf/hard of hearing and/or have severe learning disabilities;
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate effective aquatic programs to meet the needs of students;
• Knowledge of the Ontario Public Pools regulations and relevant legislation and Provincial and Demonstration Schools policies and procedures, guidelines and practices;
• Good judgement and problem solving skills;
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team;
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds to assist with student transfers.

Communication Skills:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and other professionals.
• Proficiency in English and American Sign Language (ASL) (or willingness to obtain).
