Job Summary

The Coordinator, Technical Services handles the event specific details of a production, as well as the day-to-day maintenance requirements of the production systems and infrastructure. During the preproduction phase, Coordinators are evaluating system effectiveness and designing changes alongside coordinating repairs to ensure all systems are operating at full efficiency. Coordinating repairs and sourcing rental equipment to ensure continuity of service for all clients.

Coordinators work with the client to ensure that production needs are documented, and equipment and budget impacts have been identified. Coordinators also provide venue tours and guidance on production elements to ensure a seamless event.

The Technical Coordinators must demonstrate expert level proficiency in one production related discipline and have an advanced understanding to provide oversight of the technical production teams as they execute event plans during festivals and events. Working with the Supervisor, Technical Services they ensure that all required documentation has been submitted and approved, and that all post-event reports and evaluations are submitted according to established timelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

Event Production Coordination (60%)

  • Coordinate the set-up and operation of production equipment and systems in all City of Mississauga Culture facilities.
  • Actively operate specialized production equipment
  • Create and collect technical information packages ensuring that production plans are accurate and follow all guidelines and policies
  • Meet with clients and production staff to review available facilities and amenities ensuring that all client production needs are captured in relevant documentation
  • Coordinate weather contingency plans and actively monitor onsite conditions to ensure plans are enacted in a timely fashion and required messaging is communicated to the appropriate staff and stakeholders
  • Provide expert level troubleshooting to part time staff and external clients
  • Coordinate and conduct training sessions for part time staff, contractors and volunteers on the effective and safe operation of production equipment and system
  • Coordinate purchases and rentals of production equipment, supplies and materials
  • Review Riders and other technical documentation to develop production budgets, advising clients on technical requirements and budgets impacts
  • Modify control system programming as required to meet other departmental obligations

System Design and Maintenance (10%)

  • Develop and create schedules, system designs, drawings, line drawings, wire schedules and termination of production systems for maintenance and life cycle replacement/upgrades.
  • Coordinate and assist with the functional programming of installed systems ensure stakeholder individual's needs are met. Modify programming as required.
  • Ensure systems and production designs are compliant with all current codes and other regulatory guidelines and are approved by Supervisors when required.
  • Perform emergency and routine maintenance of equipment and infrastructure.

Facilities (15%)

  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance of different production related work areas ensuring they meet all requirements and City standards

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a Live Event or Media Production related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading Productions and production staff
  • Expert level knowledge of at least one aspect of theatre, concert production, broadcast.
  • Strong background in concert and Theatrical Rigging, Audio and Lighting Production for Concerts, Events and Broadcast
  • Requires lifting of supplies/materials 75 - 100lbs
  • Working at heights, boom lift, Scissor lift license.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, CAD/Sketch up, and other industry standard software. DiGiCo, ETC EOS, Newtek Tricaster, GrandMA2/3, Dante, Optocore, Mosaic Pharos, ArKaos Media Servers, DLive, Wireless Work Bench, Brightauthor, Adobe Editing Suite, NDI, Capture Visualizer.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C certificate required.
