Job Description

Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Library Technician I provides reference and customer service to the public. Provides copy cataloguing, linking and modification of records. Locates and verifies information in the Library's collection or in other libraries. Assists with collection development and maintenance. Provides and creates programming for adults, teens and children.

Job Requirements
  1. Post-Secondary education in a related field of study such as Library Information systems, Library Technician diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience in a public Library environment with multi-service provision and/or a broad knowledge of a variety of library services offered.
  3. Demonstrated experience, accuracy and knowledge of cash handling procedures.
  4. Proficient in a computerized environment including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint); Integrated Library Systems, internet use and general office equipment (i.e. microfilm reader/printer).
  5. Experience in general office functions including photocopying, printing, ordering and accessing supplies, answering the phone and general correspondence.
  6. Demonstrated experience providing direct customer service in person and via phone with ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff, organizations and stakeholders.
  7. Demonstrated time management skills with ability to prioritize demands, meet customer service standards and deadlines. Previous experience requiring a sound ability to multi-task an asset.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member as well as the ability to work independently and with minimum or no supervision to meet deadlines, perform multiple tasks and to respect confidentiality.
  9. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  10. Ability to keep up-to-date with current events.
  11. Good interpersonal, organization, analytical skills, and attend to detail and accuracy is necessary.
  12. Good understanding of cataloguing standards.
  13. Availability to work a flexible work schedule including working evenings and Saturdays and Sundays as required.
