Job Description

Working with the Town of Newmarket's Recreation and Culture Team, means the opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community! Working in Recreation means being apart of something special, gaining valuable work experience and learning new skills. We are looking for dedicated individuals who enjoy working with others with a passion to deliver high quality programs, events and services. One thing is for certain, you will love the experience and our participants will too!

The Successful Candidate will:

1. Set up and take down telMAX Indoor Skate Park equipment as needed, and report any issues or repairs to the Youth Centre Director.
2. Develop lesson plans and evaluate the progress and participation.
3. Write and handout report cards outlining your students' accomplishments and recommendations each session. Update parents/guardians on their child's progress.
4. Keep track of participant attendance during lessons and monitor entry and exit of program participants.
5. Supervises and maintains a safe environment for participants, ensures participants wear appropriate safety equipment.
6. Complete Incident/Accident reports, provide basic first aid when needed, and notify the Youth Centre Director when required.

Job Requirements

1. Minimum 2 - 4 years skateboard or scooter riding experience.

2. Sport and recreation instruction experience is an asset.

3. Demonstrated ability to work well with children, youth and adults.

4. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the general public, participants, parents/guardians of participants and staff.

5. National Skateboard Certification Skate Program Level 1 or 2 an asset.

6. Availability to work evenings, weekends and special events.

7. Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.

8. Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification required.

9. Current High Five (Principles of Healthy Child Development) certification required.

10. Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification or Safe Management certification an asset

Please Note: Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.
