Southbridge, the owner and operator of several long-term care homes and retirement communities in Southwestern Ontario, is currently seeking a Recreational Programs Manager to join their Long-Term Care home on Pickering, Ontario.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Recreational Programs Manager is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing and supervising the departments' programs and staff.

What is expected of you:

  • Plan, organize, direct and supervise the department program which includes: recreational, restorative care, pastoral care, social work, music therapist and volunteers.
  • Implement and evaluate program relating to the five "P.I.E.S.S domains"
  • Coordinate therapeutic program development and delivery in collaboration with those of other departments
  • Asses departmental needs and draft an action plan.
  • Complete Scheduling & payroll
  • Recruit/ coach, mentor and supervise departmental/programs staff
  • Develop departmental goals and objects.
  • Actively participate in program delivery.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor programming budget.
  • Create and update Resident Health Care Record as they pertain to the department (MDS experience an asset)
  • Coordinate the completion of MDS assessments on all residents whiting established timelines
  • Education Lead
  • Actively participate in the homes':
    • IDTCs (Inter Disciplinary Team Conference)
    • PACC (Professional advisory care conference)
    • QIP meeting ( Quality Improvement Plan)

What you bring to the table:
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university required.
  • Knowledge of the concepts of Restorative care, Holistic care, Activation and Dementia Care.
  • Minimum one year supervisory experience.
  • Experience in planning, developing and evaluating effectiveness of individual and group programming for frail, elderly residents using an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and have a command of the English and French language.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of community resources, program development, MOHLTC standards.
  • Previous supervisory experience in long term care an asset.
  • At least one year of experience with seniors in an organized program or one year of experience with persons in a health care setting required.
  • Experience or knowledge in recruitment, selection, orientation, placement and supervision of volunteers required.
  • Sufficient knowledge and experience to coordinate religious services and spiritual care in a multi-faith setting required.
